Buying an American Fridge/Freezer. Which one?

Hi well if you read any of my threads on our LG one it may have put you right off but we have had it a while now and i love it as much as when we got it! We bought it mainly as to how it looks and get so many comments on it..it deff dominates the kitchen! (glossy black)
The probs we had with it was the fact we live in a town house up i think 13 stairs (should know the amount we had delivered!)..they refused to deliver..one was scratched..one was dented and emmitted gases..the story goes on BUT the fridge is fab and like i said we love it. The getting in and out wasn't and never again!
Cost £950 but got some knocked off .. after months of delivery probs and issues with scratch etc we got about £400 knocked off and some other freebies so not too bad in the end! It has water and ice variations on it. Also like the fact we can just wheel it out easily to clean under (not sure if all do this but as a rule large appliances are hard to budge!) It is also A rated so i guess not much more than normal fridge to run.
I wouldnt buy a Samsung for the record just from knowing people who have them!
Good luck and enjoy..x0 -
We bought a Samsung earlier this year and have so far been delighted and have had no problems.
This model:-

We bought it via Next as it was a good deal, we happen to have some vouchers to use and Mrs M has an account with them. All of which made it the cheapest buy including Currys etc.
We chose not to go with ice and water as the volume of lost space in the freezer was noticeable. As we were buying for more freezer space that defeated the object of the purchase. Plus it actually came with a very nice ice maker unit that sits on one of the shelves taking up a third of the space of an automated one.
We're happy so far and it's almost silent with no noticeable increase in electricity charges after the first 6 months.
Surprisingly the Stainless Steel has remained good looking and easy to clean.
Make sure you have viable access to physically get the unit into your kitchen, they are large and heavy.0 -
I've had a Samsung RSG5DURS - newer G series with SS finish - for about 10 months. Cost circa £1K.
It's functioned perfectly and I've been really pleased with it ... until last night. It stopped cooling in the fridge and freezer. Temp shows something normal but actual temp is much higher. Reset at mains shows freezer temp to be 6C and fridge 10C.
Got about £500 of stuff gradually forming puddles...
Contacted Samsung this morning and they promise a tech call (not a visit) in 24 hours.
In summary: I've subsequently read problems with Samsung FF but even had I read those, I still think I would have bought the same one. I would have, for example, assumed they'd ironed out design faults for the newer G-series. Of course, assumption is a poor guide.
The nearest thing to this model for spec was at least double the price. Just not possible. At least, I've got over a year's guarantee on this one left. But in the long-term, these inexpensive !!!!!! may prove to be poor economic sense.
Good luck with whatever you choose. This is not an anti-Samsung post. Just one user's experience so far.0 -
My LG lasted 2 years so no recommendation from me!
I've gone for a Bosch now like I should have done in the first place!0 -
I've had a Daewoo from Currys (online) for 2 weeks and so far I love it. I didn't want to water thing cos they use up too much space in the already inadequate freezer. I still have my de-installed integrated freezer and a large coffin-type in the garage. I am gradually emptying the large one in order to get rid of it.
Although the American FF freezer in a bit small, I'm sure eventually( if I stop buying stuff when it's reduced) I'll be able to cope with it. The space in the fridge is great.0 -
*Highjack!
We're also looking for an American style fridge freezer, but with a smaller budget if possI've been warned off the Samsung ones by another thread on here, but has anyone got any good, bad or ugly stories about Daewoo, LG or Hotpoint which seems to be our price range limits?!

Ok, having done some more online research, I have brought my shortlist down to (probably!) an LG GWB207FLQA, with a bonus of a 2yr guarantee.A Whirlpool 20RBD1L, or Hotpoint FF4DK Quadrio which all seems to do what we need and at a reasonable price.
Have read the reviews online, but we all know nothing can compare to real life reviews! Anyone got any stories, good or bad, on these?! Would greatly appreciate any help x:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. As per my post above, our Daewoo is excellent, is now 4 years old and still looks and works as well as the day it was delivered.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
We've got the LG GWL227HBQA, we went for this one as we were on a budget and LG seemed to tick all the boxes without adding too much extra cost. Can highly reccomend it, it's simple in design, looks stunning and works really well and is A rated for energy."Live each day as if it were your last and garden as though you will live forever"

My question wouls be.
Surely now that Smasung know they HAD a problem they will have doubled their efforts to manufacture a machine that will be free of defects at a price designed to recapture market share?
Or is that too easy?0
