Best buy looks like being just another currys or dixons, whether they will be cheaper than the average high street retailer only time will tell but chances of them being competitive with online retailers is pretty slim. At the end of the day i needed a new tv, i was down there on day 1, queued for 30 mins and picked myself up a brand new Toshiba 32" for £180. I dont really care if it was a store opening loss leader, they made a profit out of me or if the rest of the prices in that place are through the roof. I got a perfectly good high end branded HD Widescreen (all be it last years model) for only £180!!! And if anyone says that isnt a bargain and a half you need your heads examined.

Deals like that are designed to get a place noticed and on the map and people in the store, take advantage of them while you can and if the rest of the prices are over the odds you just shop somewhere else dont you
Comp wins 2010 (Feb onwards) - loads of books, CD, Toys, Photographic lighting rig, Mobile phone, 16GB ipod Nano, Digital camera

    Comp wins 09 - £4500, 08 - £345.70!

Just had a look at the website, very appealing !

Did anyone see the ipod touch in store? In the area later today and planning to buy.

    Thank You !

They had the 8GB for 139.99 which is the same price as Amazon, and the 32GB was over over £200. I think it was £229 but I might be wrong about that second figure.

They have none of the sale items left either.

You're right about those cheap deals, but some of the news articles in the national press about the opening look like adverts written by Best Buy marketing staff.

I found the reality to be quite disappointing, especially as they were still handing offer booklets out in the queue.

We popped down on Saturday, we got one of the last tellys and a digital camera. There were genuine offers - often stores will put up rices before the sales so it looks like a big discount but these were genuine cuts on the best prices available elsewhere (hooray for Kelkoo on your mobile phone!!)

Some of the posts above are putting down the lack of "offers" but in the end some things are on offer and some aren't - that's as much as can be expected. These are by far the best offers I've seen at a store opening for along time

    :j

And price match at other retailers is a great way of circumventing the queues :rotfl:

The reality of it is that Best buy is more than likely just another electronics superstore in the same mould as Dixons and Currys etc and chances are wont be staggeringly different service and price wise. It was just eye catching opening day marketing that clearly worked and to be fair by the sounds of it probably sold a good 5000-10000 tv's at stupidly low prices. You want expert advice and aftersales support you go to a specialist like Richer Sounds etc. I would normally avoid the Dixons of this world like my life depended on it but if someone offers me a deal like that i'll take their arm of for it no matter whose selling it. The trick is to just make sure your the first in the queue ;)

'i know they wernt the greatest of deals left but there was so much demand over the weekend!
we may even be getting in some more of the 32' tv as thats on offer until may 12th'

    Thanks Laura-Jane

The Toshiba TVs? - seems they were coming in in fits & starts over the weekend. My husband told there were none, then when he got there there were actually 70 in-store but because he was 74th in the queue he didn't get a magic ticket. Then on the website it said they had sold out altogether - I thought the opening deal prices were only valid for the opening weekend?

Surely Best Buy must know how many they had coming in altogether, especially as there is only one store to service? Just a ploy to still get people through the door by being vague possibly?
