It isnt true of all debt collectors - some are very reasonable and others are a pain in the !!!!!!. At the same time, within a company you will get some good and some bad employees.

The one thing in their "defence" is that they have to speak to bad debt customers for 7 hours a day 5 days a week and I know from the short spell I did in debt management at least 75% of people either deny the debt (never existed/ has been settled) or come up with a sob story of why they cant pay (but are loving the car/ sofas/ holiday etc) and it can make you very cynical of anyone who claims innocence/ poverty

point taken, but i'm oneof the 25%! I 'm genuinely in sympathy with anyone who has to say 'i'm calling about your debt'. I'm in a position where I don't have to do this but I only ask to be treated with a modicum of courtesy.
as for people who feel with they can use other people's cash to 'live the dream'....... well, perhaps they should claim compensation for hurt feelings... ooooh! diabolical!

Hi, I had the unfortunate task of speaking to Credit Solutions yesterday regarding a dispute I have with Powergen. The girl I spoke to (Kim) was very rude and spoke to me as if I was something she had scraped off her shoe! She was very offensive and refused to even speak to me properly until I had "set up an account" with her first!! She asked for personal details, such as my mothers maiden name, which I refused to give, to which she replied "I have them already from Powergen"!! I told her that she had no customer relation skills, to which I was told "I don't work in customer relations". I was also threatened to "not go to a solicitor, it will do you no good"! She then put the phone down on me.
Does anyone have details of the MD of Credit Solutions as I would really like to give him a piece of my mind?

Send a complaint to the MD by all means but please also send it to the OFT as they will investigate it especially if they have loads of complaints. No one has the right to speak to you in that manner it is actually against the rules set down by the OFT. I would put in the letter to the MD that you are making a formal complaint to the OFT. Good luck

I had a woman form LloydsTSB collections dept did exactly the same thing to me. I sent a very strong and straight to the point email complaint to head office. I received a letter back a couple of weeks back now apologizing for the manner of the person involved and that they were re training the woman who called me a liar. I actually hung up on her. Their calls ARE recorded they CAN check back they do not have the right to speak to anyone without politeness and courtesy.

EDIT: Please do not put your debt onto your mortgage as you could end up losing your home. It's too big a gamble.

I'm sorry but what does OFT mean?

I want to write and complain about how I have been treated recently over the phone with two people at Credit Solutions, both of them very rude and arrogant, and also not allowing me to speak, talking over me, and putting the phone down on me.

This is just totally unnacceptable behaviour and none of us should be treated in this manner

I have never been on the receiving end of this company from a credit perspective but I worked once in the same building as them when they were alot smaller than they are now. Some of the senior people were horrible and the staff used to moan about the conditions working there all the time (not that that is any excuse fo the way you have been treated) and they walked around with very long faces and were paid very little but things might have changed now. I hope this next bit makes you laugh, one of the senior women there we identified as being the "phantom pooer", i.e. she used to have a poo and never flush the toilet and she always used to take her pen with her when she went - yuck.

    I wish you well.

i find the best way to deal with them (and any debt company) is to laugh loudly, it really winds them up!!!! Then say "byeeee" and put the phone down!! :T

The best way to avoid debt collectors is to not run up debts...

If someone owed you money would you not try to get it back?
