credit solutions.

Some time ago I received a call from the above company:
'good morning. I'm phoning from credit solutions about your unsettled debt'.
'what unsettled debt?'.
she then ran through the details of a dispute which had been settled amicably to both parties some 6 months previously!
I had kept the paperwork relating to this, just in case of any comeback.
After I had finished reading out the contents of said paperwork she demanded to know why I had not contacted credit solutions to inform them of this! I was told to fax the details over to her immediately. Naturally, I told her to take my personal details off her screen and ---- off.
this was the first time I had ever had contact with a debt collection agency. I am not particuarly shockable but the telephone manner, the high-handed manner and the sheer arrogance left me breathless. Is this approach typical of debt collection companies? Was the confrontational attitude a technique learned? And has anyone found themselves bullied out of money that was not necessarily owed?

Was the offensive attitude a technique learned?
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.
  • Hi, I had the unfortunate task of speaking to Credit Solutions yesterday regarding a dispute I have with Powergen. The girl I spoke to (Kim) was very rude and spoke to me as if I was something she had scraped off her shoe! She was very offensive and refused to even speak to me properly until I had "set up an account" with her first!! She asked for personal details, such as my mothers maiden name, which I refused to give, to which she replied "I have them already from Powergen"!! I told her that she had no customer relation skills, to which I was told "I don't work in customer relations". I was also threatened to "not go to a solicitor, it will do you no good"! She then put the phone down on me.
Does anyone have details of the MD of Credit Solutions as I would really like to give him a piece of my mind?

We got a very cheeky phonecall from them a few months ago regarding a debt from years ago, I sent them a letter asking them to provide me with paperwork to prove that I owed them the money and included a cheque for £1, they cashed the cheque but have never sent me the paperwork. The were phoning every morning and I would just pick up the reciever and put it straight back down and I sent them a letter telling them to stop phoning me and only deal with me by post. The phone calls have now eventually stopped and I haven't heard anything from them since so hopefully that will be the last I hear from them. They are very rude and threatning and have no customer relations skills at all.
  • i find the best way to deal with them (and any debt company) is to laugh loudly, it really winds them up!!!! Then say "byeeee" and put the phone down!! :T
:D I understand ALOT more than I care to let on :D

It isnt true of all debt collectors - some are very reasonable and others are a pain in the !!!!!!. At the same time, within a company you will get some good and some bad employees.

The one thing in their "defence" is that they have to speak to bad debt customers for 7 hours a day 5 days a week and I know from the short spell I did in debt management at least 75% of people either deny the debt (never existed/ has been settled) or come up with a sob story of why they cant pay (but are loving the car/ sofas/ holiday etc) and it can make you very cynical of anyone who claims innocence/ poverty

  • I really don't think this gives them the right to be appallingly rude. They don't have to do the job if they don't want to.

I agree it isnt a right, and they should maintain their professionalism but then there is also reality. Unfortunately there are many jobs out there (many of which are little more than min wage) which are unsavoury but someone has to do them and generally the salary means they wont exactly be attracting the most motivated people (but of cause there are exceptions)
