gordon brown is a very intelligent man. he'd beat cameron in an IQ test any day. he is also a decent man. unlike cameron who voted for clause 28, no doubt made lots of homophobic jibes in his youth and in private and then goes 'pick a principle' because he realizes it doesn't win votes.

frankly i find the witch hunt blood lust from the right wing media sickening.

Given your somewhat nasty signature ""Mr Cameron if you are so keen to stop carbon emissions why don't you just stop breathing?"" I am curious to know if you would be so sickened at the blood lust if it had being David Cameron that had said something embarrassing and was caught out in such a way ?

So voting for clause 28 (always should have been "section" 28) automatically makes somebody homophobic?

Bit like someone having a view on immigration being racist?

Getting a bit miffed by the fact that everything in this country appears to be so blooming binary in nature.

well vote for clegg then if you don't like brown.

but i personally don't find this personality witch hunt of brown necessary. not least because the comments he made were pretty mild.

i like what clegg said - that if all of them had their off camera remarks broadcast none of them would have a political career.

I would hazard a guess that a very large proportion of men are guilty of making homophobic jibes in their youth - just go to any playground and stand there for a few minutes.

Maybe even Saint Gordon did too....

cameron hasn't just made them in his youth though. he voted for homophobic policies as an adult (section 28).

absolutely although this would be a legal minefield as sensitive defence information has to be treated differently. there would be a great deal of pre discussion about it and editorial decisions about when and where the filming could happen and how the material could be used.

Agree entirely, absolutely, and I accepted the government line on it before that war too. My point is...these people have previous...like the dodgy saleman.

i read all the furore before i watched the clip. and when i saw it i couldn't believe how innocuous it was. i was really angered by the way they played it to the woman and then shoved a microphone in her face to get a reaction. completely disgusting nasty journalists - the sort i loathe. apparently the sun has interviewed the grandmother but isn't going to run it because she's too pro labour. and currently max clifford is struggling to get the woman herself to sell an anti gb story.

i'd really like to secret film the sky newsroom and powers that be - murdoch. now that would be interesting. and very much in the public interest.

I think you ar absolutely right about poor Ms duffy's treatment in all of this. Pawn. Poor, poor woman. Her limitations are not so abnormal and she is not a public figure. I think the fact that she is just an ordinary person on the street, neither blessed with eloquence nor the time to prepare, nor even a role in public life is all relevant.

I know, I read your post, I just don't agree that speculating that someone "made lots of homophobic jibes in his youth" should be used as a argument against them.

Voting for Section 28 speaks for itself though.

And she's a bigot. Lots of ordinary folk like her are bigoted in a similar way.

I wonder if bigotry isn't a little like hypocrisy....none of us like to accept we are, yet we can see it in almost everyone else.....and while we look at others someone is looking at us!

it's merely a quote from david cameron himself in the last debate. something he considered to be a joke.

i don't think breaking broadcasting codes does us any favours to be honest no matter who they are aimed at.
