Asda - price promise thingy - seems good - from today

from hduk

Asda cheapest supermarket guaranteed. If ANY item is available cheaper in tesco, sainsburys, or morrisons go online and get a voucher of the difference off your next shop

Keep your receipt for any transaction in Asda. Input the transaction number on the Internet and if any items are cheaper (checked by mysupermarket) in tesco, sainsburys or morrisons you get a voucher for the difference plus a penny off each item.

From today, customers will be invited to visit Asda’s website to enter a code found on receipts. The website, using data from Mysupermarket.com, will calculate whether their shopping would have been cheaper at Tesco, Sainsbury’s or Morrisons. If so, shoppers will be refunded the difference, up to a maximum of £25 a month

  • This is good for buying products which are higher priced in ASDA than other supermarkets, if you do not have those stores nearby. However, it takes into account the cumulative savings and not the individual items, which is a farce.

Oh dear - I feel a bit thick but can someone explain why the cumulative saving is no good as opposed to the individual saving.

Excellent, I do my main shopping in Asda anyway. Might save a few (more!!) pennies.

It means it'll compare the price of your entire basket/trolley of shopping as opposed to each individual item you buy.
Eg if you spend £60 on 35 items at asda and
the comparison site finds it'd only be £58 at tesco, you'd get the £2 difference plus £0.35(1p for each item) back.

Yep just tried a receipt and found exactly that with the cumulative savings - shopping was about 10% cheaper than at other supermarkets overall but some individual products were more expensive - no voucher in this instance though.

I thought this was a guarantee of all prices being cheaper but I suppose as we shop there anyway it will be good to check it every week.

Apparently this thing has been in the making for some time, but no goes live.

Too good to be true? Maybe, but I am an ASDA shopper, so I will try it anyway :j
  • Just a thought, but if you think some items are more expensive, could you put them through the till as a separate shop, therefore a separate receipt? I sometimes have to do this if i am shopping for a friend and the cashier doesn't mind. I don't know if this would make a difference

IIRC, MySupermarket.com doesn't cover Morrisons does it? How will that one work?

    Cheers,
