i signed up for this in february, and one thing i will advise is be aware of how pruhealth bill you, as it's quite complex; in fact, so apparently complex that none of their advisors can agree on how it works. some say they charge in advance, some say they charge in arrears, others describe some arcane method where you pay for half a month either side of the billing date or something similar. i might've just had useless advisors every time, of course.

also, cancellation is a bit weird. i rang to cancel the other day and was first told that i would have to give 30 days notice, which would mean paying a 7th month and my membership ending in september rather than august. fair enough, as my gym membership lasted till the middle of september anyway.

i then got a letter telling me that my membership would cease at the end of august. i queried this, and was told that this was the case, but that they would charge me for a 7th month anyway. i was fuming at this: seven months' subscription for six months' cover! i rang again and was again informed this was the case but that they would send a query to the credit control department. i then got another call saying that i was never going to be billed for the 7th month, and that the advisor (i.e. both advisors!) had misinformed me. all very strange. i've just cancelled it all now as a) i can't be bothered with another overseas call centre and b) my waistline is winning the battle cos i hardly ever get to the gym anymore.

this is a great offer though... i wish i could've got quidco cashback back in february...
  • Ive just signed up for this offer today, I tried to go through egg (as I have an egg card) but it didnt seem to work if I wanted the £100 cashback as well as the gym membership so I have settled for just the membership. I was also told that if i cancelled after 6 months no "activation" fee would be charged - seems different to what everybody else has said

Still a good offer even without the cashback £20 a month is a lot cheaper than I was quoted at the gym (£57) and it is full membership as well so am pretty happy

Once I get my pru health card through get a ref from gym and call 0800 092 7333 to become a member

I am a little worried about taking out the policy just for the gym membership, anyone had any bad experiences? I don't intend on claiming so I hope it will be fine.

Thanks to everyone for posting their advice its been really useful for me
  • Ok here's my experiences so far - had a bit of trouble at first getting the gym offer to appear - kept getting the boots offer when i wrent through quidco. So i found that by clicking on the links earlier on in this forum thread the gym offer then started to appear through quidco, i got and accepted the quote £19.81 - non london hospitals, non smoker, regular exerciser and £1000 excess. I have private health insurance from work so the policy details don't really interest me.

I applied late on Sunday and got my membership pack through today, i first had to call Holmes Place 0207 5622121 to get my Holmes Place membership number (they needed my pru heath id), then was put through to Pru who activated my membership - i was told i would recieve my membership card in 7-10 days but i could start going to the gym as from today - just take me pru card and the holmes place membership number with me.

As stated earlier on this forum she said i would NOT be charged a £25 activation fee - this is only charged if you don't contact them within 30 days after the free voucher expires in 6 months time - to carry on your gym membership. If you wish to carry on its £25 per month but your limited to the one gym only.

Only snag is Quidco have tracked my purchase but is says "0 for the transaction and £0 for the earnings - i've raised an enquiry with them

Even without the cashback 6 months gym membership at Holmes Place for £118 is a cracking deal - at my branch this would cost £390, a saving of £272!

    sorry im not great at explaining this, what i did was;

i went onto the pru's website using the 6 month membership link and got a quote which they emailed me a reference number for.

i then joined quidco and went to the pru's website via quidco's link (so i presume the where tracking it)

i then retrieved my quote on the pru's site, using the ref. number they had e-mailed me. and it came up with the same details 17.44 a month.

so if i filled the full application form out on the pru's site would i then have the policy and would've been tracked by quidco. ???

thats what i was meaning. sorry if it was a bit muddled.

I'm not sure it would work if you get a quote then go via quidco and retrieve the quote you previously got... on my quidco I've got about 10 transactions for £0.00 which were all the quotes i got and then one tranaction for my policy amount which also shows my commission from quidco.

I'm having the same problem with Quidco. 3 x 0 Amount/Earnings for the quotes and a 0 Amount/Earnings for the transaction. Any advice?

I called PruHealth today and they were nice. They said for Cannons you need to go in person with your ID and get a membership number and ring PruHealth back with it and they'll sort out the billing. They also will pay for a free fitness screening, which also gives you 300 vitality points.

Great offer! Hope my quidco goes through though...
  • Was going to go for this as I'm currently paying £54 at my local Holmes Place, but the quote I get is for £34.....is it to do with your age? Do they check...not really bothered about the health cover as I wont use it....
  • I'm sorry if this question has been asked before but I couldn't find it anywhere. When I first read about this offer I'm sure that I read somewhere that it was limited to one person per household - is this true or have I made it up? My flatmate and I both want to do it so will this be possible? Thank you.
  • As long as you don't take out a joint policy it should be fine. But if you take a joint policy I think only one of you would get the gym membership.
  • Okay so I joined Quidco but the links were only going to the Boots offer. So I opened the link to the gym offer in a separate window then re-clicked to open from Quidco and the gym thing appeared so I have applied!

£20.81 p.m. I'm currently paying £31 at the local leisure centre!

    Eek!
