hi,
just a quick question,i was just wondering if anyone knows if you can get free access/membership to gyms or help with the costs whilst claiming WTC/CTC?
we are on a low income at the minute as i took time out from work due to health problems (back problem) and to study.
i have a history of back problems which my doctor knows about, and was wondering that due to my health and low income is there any help with these costs.
i think it may help me with with my bad back,i am also not as fit as i used to be anymore! lol (too many takeouts and sambucca over the last few years, lol)

i will give them a call on monday.
wtc is working tax credit and ctc childrens tax credit.0 -
Our Doctor can give referral to the gym at our local council run recreation centre. Not sure of the cost per session but do know its a reduced cost, try your local doc and see if the scheme runs there.
Edit to add i think the scheme is called fitness by prescription, or something very much like that. Doctor will send a referral off to gym, they contact you and then you get reduced price fitness thing.0 -
Hi
Check your local council's website for their 'Passport to Leisure' criteria and the places that'll accept them near to you. It'll tell you how to apply too.0 -
cheers jooles,
im just off to search now.0 -
in a place where you are not judged nor misunderstood
How nice of you to judge the OP as that.
There are other ways of getting fit other than a gym. My friend just got a bike and rowing machine from freecycle and is using that.
I know my local council don't offer gym memberships at discount to students or those on benefits. One day I might be more organised...........
GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -

The original post clearly states that s/he has over indulged in food and drink, so how am I judging? I am merely responding to the OP's own words. If there are other ways to get fit, why doesn't the employ enploy these uses?
Oh and BTW I am not a guardian angel!0 -

!!!!!!?
maybe i did over exagerate on the takeout/binge drinking,a little(i like to add a bit of humour to my posts) but,i do have an ongoing back problem caused by 7 years in a job paying taxes like you, that involved climbing on roofs with triple ladders and lifting roof ladders up 3 story houses etc!
why dont you go and verbally abuse a few proper benefit cheats, you troll.
we are only on wtc, until i finish my studying(paid out of my own money)pass the exams(exam fees from my money)then, hopefully gain a decent career out of it!
we dont claim housing benefit or council tax benefit, just to let you know!0 -
so dont come on here trying to brand me as some, benefit cheat who likes to sit around all day spending their dole money on cheap a$$ lager.
if i am entitled to some help with my back problem,i will take it.
if it makes you happy, send me your paypal details and i will send you a donation towards your tax bill! lol0 -
Would your doctor not refer you to some sort of physio if it is an ongoing problem.?
I can see all sorts comming out of the woodwork of you really can claim free/cheaper gym membership whilst claiming benefits.
I know you can get a discount for swimming at my local Leisure Center by apply for some sort of flexi card. Swimming is great for that kind of thing, i hear.
I'm sure Vicktory was thinking what many of us were, ie !!!!!! - i cant afford to go to the gym and i got to work all week!! You must see where he is comming from."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." My hero, Mr Steer.0
