Hi
I think when i cooked ratatouille last week I might have overcooked it although im not sure how. The slow cooker usually smells lovely when I cook it, but this tie it just smelt burnt.
Im getting round to using some tonight and im not sure what to do, I dont want to throw away but if it tastes bad im going to need to mask the flavour so its edible.
Anybody found anything to mask the burnt flavour? Its going to be served with fish, so nothing very strong :-S0 -
I haven't found anything to take away that burnt-food taste so I'll be very interested in reading the responses to this question. In the first instance I'd be tempted to add a squeeze of lemon-juice and see how that worked but I'm sure I'd end up throwing the food out.0

lemon juice would accentuate the flavour. sorry, you're stuck! nothing will get rid of a burnt taste.0

I can't think of anything to get rid of burnt taste, but are you sure it's your rattatouille? My slow cooker sometimes gets little drips down the side and smells like burning but it isn't it's just the outer metal bit.Feb GC: £200 Spent: £190.790

it might not be, I cooked it over night and after waking up to the burnt smell I couldnt bring myself to taste it.
It looks the right colour, only a little darker but there wasnt really anything stuck round the edges like there sometimes is.
It is a bit of a mystery and im still holding out that it wont taste horrible.
Looks like if it is then im stuck with it!0 -
It may be something hitting the heating element thenFeb GC: £200 Spent: £190.790

Sounds totally weird, but try adding teaspoons of peanut butter (little by little). According to some pages on the net this gets rid of the burnt taste - also transfer to another pan before cooking.Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
It is really hard to burn something in a slow cooker. The food would have to completely dry out, and then some. Ratatouille is a wet type of dish, so is unlikely to have dried right out. How thick/dry was it when you took it out of the slow cooker?0
