Can I take burnt taste away?

Options
Have just spent about 10 minutes peeling and coring eating apples on their way out. Put them on to cook as was going to make pie/crumble tomorrow and yep you guessed it - was on this site, forgot and now they are burnt:eek:

I managed to salvage them before they were too bad, but my question is.... do you think if I put them in a pie will the burnt flavour still be there? Dont want to waste pastry and time doing this if it is just going to go in the bin.

Many thanks with any advice - I know I sound a bit twp, but thought I'd ask anyway!!!:D

Sorry don't know the answer but you have my sympathy, the things I should be doing regularly get forgotten when I log on here!
Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.

depends on how badly burnt they are really, if they are really bad id bin em..theres nothing worse than tasting burnt food, give them a taste and if they are not too bad id be tempted to use half for one crumble/pie adding fresh apples and using the other half with more fresh apples to make a crumble or something for the freezer at least if they do taste a little burnt it will be diluted by half.
proper prior planning prevents !!!!!! poor performance! :p

    Thanks for all your replies!

Angchris, I think I will take up your option and mix them with some new apples as they aren't too burnt so might be able to disguise them if they are mixed together and diluted!!

hope it works out ok :D i hate wasting food, yesterday oh rifled through my fruit bowl and threw all the slightly wrinkly apples in the bin  there was loads of em as i got a couple of boxes of apples for xmas, i made him get them back out and wash them :o :rotfl: oh said youve got to be kidding no one is going to eat those..to which i informed him no we probably wont eat them like that but we will eat them in apple pie/crumble/banana bread and apple sauce once they are peeled they are fine. so i spent the afternoon cooking/freezing and gave oh apple pie n custard for his pudding which he really enjoyed!

  • Excellent Angchris - I normally keep a small bag in the freezer for apple sauce as well!

    Hi.
Old apples, good in tomato soup.
fry one onion, and some garlic - use frylight if you are watching the cals. As soon as the onion goes in peel the apple and slice it finely into the onion pan. cook down. add a tin of cooked toms, and a small spoon of sugar and keep cooking for about 5 mins. I usually add a bit of paprika or chilli depending on mood. Whizz down and add a touch of milk/creme fraiche/something milky and serve with home made fresh bread.

Help i was making chilli con carne and i left it simmering when the phone rang and i forgot about it now ive just gone to check and it has burnt to the bottom of the pan. Is it savable???

    Thanks

    Dee
    xx
  • Some of it should be saveable. Scoop the top bit, that's not burnt out. That should taste okay.

Whatever you do, don't stir it, that'll mix the burnt in with the rest and make it all taste grim.
