The only way the stores will stay closed on Boxing Day or New Years Day is if there isn't enough trade. Only some Tesco opened this last Boxing Day but I have a feeling that they will all open this year as it is a Sunday they will not even be paying extra to their staff. :(

I think that's awful. I've never needed to go to the shops on boxing day and wouldn't anyway out of principle, there is nothing I need that badly that can't wait a day. If it was something urgent or necessary I'd have already got it beforehand knowing the shops wouldn't be open. Also, I'd be far too over the limit to drive to the shops lol!

On the other hand, you get people who moan that you're closed on boxing day! Where I worked we closed Christmas day, Boxing day and Easter day. We've not closed on new years day since I've been working there, although this year I would've been in even if we had closed (VAT changes.. fun!).

I see this a lot to, maybe they should go out back to reduce- but also it is really very sad state of affairs that they should have to!!

That is a good idea, the only problem you have is when it comes to chilled/frozen products, you only have 30 minutes to put it back into the chiller/fridge.

All supermarkets/ superstores in Scotland are closed on New Years Day.
I think all stores should close on Boxing Day too like they did (in Scotland anyway) 20 years ago or so.

Back on topic, If supermarkets did reductions earlier on in the day or periodically throughout the day there would be no one pushing and shoving, making it easier for the colleagues to do their jobs. :D

  • I wonder, would Tesco be liable, if someone got injured during a discount scrum?

I've seen people swap the stickers on things before also to put them on full price products

I went into Tesco on Tuesday and saw a mostly scratched off yellow reduced sticker on a copy of Avatar! Someone was clearly pushing their luck with that one :rotfl:

I found myself in the M&S Simply Food at Liverpool Street station on Christmas Eve last and they were reducing almost everything in the store.

Being M&S though, the customers were ever so polite... "excuse me"... "sorry, can I just.."

    Amazing discounts though.

My local branch of Morrisons always have stuff reduced at lunchtimes. On occasions there'll be someone further reducing prices at about 1pm so if you're lucky you pick things up for half price or better. Usually pretty much everything has gone by early evening.
