So which the duel fuel british gas is best?monthly Direct Debit
    Websaver 11
Dies this mean have to stay on thsi for 12 months? but will be worth it in the long run with that amount of saving

No you do not have to stay. There will be a penalty if you leave before a certain date - just closed the window and can't be bothered to look it up. But it will be a lot less than £300!!! (between 40 and 70 pounds.)

Im doing this for my parents as they are paying way over the odds.
What does my mum do about cancelling with scottish power and then starting with British Gas?
British Gas will manage the cancellation. Remember "must" be done online and go through a cash back website like Quidco or similar for a bit extra savings.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

I have filled in all my mums details and account details
when you say must be done online you mean what I have just filled out i:e bank account etc?
I dont really mind about Quidco or anything like that.
It also gives the option of paperless bills I think will leave it unchecked as my mum will like to get the bill through the post

When you say british gas will sort the cancellation will scottish power charge my mum also will my mum have to cancel her direct debit with scottish power

The new company cancels the old contract, you will give an opening reading to the new company (they'll ask for this) and they should then transmit it to the old company who will produce a final bill.

If your parents are not currently on DD then you may need to spend some time explaining how it works - i.e. that they should in theory get ahead in the summer. My Mum in law got very confused by the DD switch but with her size of bills the saving from using an online managed DD package is huge.

The 'average' consumption used by suppliers and OFGEM is 16,500 kWh for gas and 3,300 kWh so they are using twice the average.

As well as getting onto the best tariff try looking at the level of insulation in the house especially as there offers/grants to improve things. Start by looking in the loft, the latest standard is for about 10" of insulation.
