We used to use McGees but as others have said, the quality has gone downhill big time. We used the one in Bloomfields when it opened and got the deals they had on. Now I don't do a lot of cooking but when I do it's usually chicken dishes. I found the chicken recently to be full of fat and veins and bloody bits (sorry - too much info?).

Now we use a butchers in Ballyholme near Boots and Co-op. I'm not sure what it's like for price as I generally hand over my card and cry a few tears. They do bloody good sirloins which melt in the mouth though :D

P.S. for info, McGees is outside the main shops in Forestside i.e. near the dry cleaners and travel agents.

That's a good butchers, used it a few times.I usually get my meat from Jim Broadbent opposite the Co-Op in Donaghadee.Very good value & top notch.
Yesteday I had a stuffed chicken thigh wrapped in bacon I got from McGees in Bloomfields,it was the size of a small grapefruit!
Problem was by the time it was cooked thru, the large amount of stuffing had completely dried out the chicken & the bacon was rock hard.

You should try McCallums on the Woodstock Road or Jim Coffey's on the Belmont Road, 2 good butchers in my opinion. Try getting a one inch thick slice of rump and cooking it like a steak, you'll be eating for an hour

I'm sure any nutritional difference between neck or shank and sirloin is minimal compared to the cost difference.

Why not try ox heart ? It's the "poor man's steak" and is low in fat. Slice it up, marinate and grill. Or cut it really fine (or mince) it and have it in your spag-bol.

McDowell's/ Farmview Meats in the Castlereagh Hills. Be prepared to queue though, even on Saturday morning it's usually out the door. Meat can't be bettered though.
