Can you make them then? I thought breadcrumbs were all crispy or something?

I have a couple of bread rolls that have probably gone a bit soft / mouldy by now!

Graham the way I make burgers

mince, grated onion (my kids don't really like onion so I grate it so they don't know it's there but I also think it blends better than when it's chopped) bread crumbs, a beaten egg and salt and pepper. Mix all together then shape. Easy peasy.

My kids refuse point blank to eat shop bought burgers now, they prefer mine. To freeze them make sure you put a bit of grease proof paper between each one, or they stick together in one solid burger block.

I also make turkey burgers in the same way but add sage too, they are really tasty and low fat.

Hi Looby, do these freeze ok uncooked with beaten egg in them?
CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J

    Cut the mould off. :naughty:

Tear up bread into pieces, leave in a bowl to dry out and rub between the palms of your hands to make breadcrumbs. Easy.
    You can freeze them too.

I prefere fresh breadcrumbs, I don't think the packet ones would work in HM beef burgers.

Dried mixed herbs would work in the burgers or fresh parsley.

To stop me making another thread and getting called names...

I feel rather violated, just got some bacon out the freezer and it's streaky, tesco must have given me this instead of normal back bacon over a month ago.

I can't eat streaky bacon, I hav a problem with the fling back in yer face fatty bits.

So can I do anything with this? I.e. make it nice? I have 2 packs of the stuff.
  • You could grill it really well so that it goes crispy and breaks up. Sprinkled over a salad or into lentil soup. MMMMM!
Could you eat it if it were well cooked in a buttie?

This wouldn't necessarily provide a "ready meal" but how about making a large batch of savoury mince?

You could have it with yorkshire pudding, mash and vege, mashed potato topping, cobbler (scone topping), basis for spag bol, lasagne or canneloni. I suppose you could add a can of curried or chilli beans and make it a bit more spicy - served with rice or whatever.

Dunno, just gonna chuck it probably, hate fat on stuff, normally cut it off bacon, but I'd have nothing left. Give it to the birds :D

As for the burgers, will make these tonight, and will provide pics of my new experiment :D

Put it back in the freezer and wait till you get the recipes, then defrost and use.

It will work in casserols, as well as other dishes.

    Noooo! Don't chuck it!

I know exactly where you're coming from about fat on bacon, I can't stand it! But as noonesperfect says if you grill it really well, the fat drains away and it goes crispy and is far tastier and better for bacon sandwiches than back bacon.
