Funny how some folk are quick to be critical isnt it, everyone's entitled to their opinion and all that, but its a bit of a shame really. Makes you wonder why some people join a wedding forum if the "fluff that goes with it is too mundane for words":eek:
Back to topic, I'd be gutted if no-one noticed my place cards -I'd like to think its the little touches that will make the day even more memorable and its something nice I wanted to do for my guests.

HTB is currently printing out the names which are glued to the 'seat' of the chair. Have made 54 in total!
Good luck Loony
xx
I couldn't agree more in regards to the other topic, I think that every couples day is a reflection of their personality and its nice to see the little touches.“A house is made of walls and beams;a home is built with love and dreams.”2012 Challenge to buy most gifts and non essentials from money made online.:money:0 -

They're made out of the cage you get with champagne! You take the wire out and bend it to become the 'backrest'...little bows were from ebay!Women marry men hoping they will change, men marry women hoping they won't! Inevitably they will both be disappointed.Albert Einstein:smileyhea0 -
How clever are you?! (also a good excuse to buy lots of champagne..) Hmmm, I am only doing place names for top table so that 10 bottles of champagne....;)mshelsbels wrote: »They're made out of the cage you get with champagne! Sorry OP- just I think I may be the only Bride in the world who finds weddings a total waste of money- i just cannot wait to be married to my OH but find the fluff that goes with it too mundane for words- so I honestly am interested and want to ask all the brides on this forum........WHY does any of it matter if you are marrying the man of your dreams how can you possibly care about place mats? Am i really missing something here? My MIL certainly seems to think so!!
Any need !!!!!!?
It's a forum set up so we can ask each other questions, or did that just slide right past you?
Just because YOU'RE not interested, doesn't mean nobody else is.
And the question was about 'place cards' not placemats, which are totally different things.
OP, I'm just writing everyone's first names on them, there won't be more than one person there with the same name, so we will be ok on that front.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
When I made my sisters, I just put the first names on them, but it was a small wedding breakfast, so there was no confusion about who was who....
But on my sisters and her OH's, I put their name, and then in smaller writing underneath, I wrote "Bride" and "Groom" on them.
I am a bit sad and I always keep my placename from weddings, and I wanted these to stand out as being from THEIR wedding, rather than just A wedding...if that makes sense??Why does nobody say Thank You anymore??:mad:Debt Free as of September 2011 :jSealed Pot 2009 number 334 - £100 Saved! yey!!Sealed Pot 2010 number 334 - £116.51 Saved! I agree with this. I think that the smaller things are what personalises a day. We are using first name, surname as we have quite a few people with the same first name, a couple on the same table. I didn't expect to be making things like placecards; but we have themed tables and the placecards will match the table theme.
Sadly, it's the little things like that that I've really enjoyed making!0 -

i think it depends on what sort of wedding you are having, i think if its particularly large, or very formal then you probably need first and second, but if not then i would do first names, the table plan could say full names (to cover the problem of double names) and i think i will do mother of the bride etc on top table, or something similar.
with regards to the other discussion that has gone on i would just like to say, like everything eith weddings it is a personal decision. Placenames can be very helpful in somecases, and in others just a nice personal touch. In my case i have lots of families with small children, wouldnt it be awful for them if everyone just sat where they wanted and then a family was left not able to sit together, and wouldnt it be an uneccessary stress for me having to stress on the day sorting it out! I think planned seating takes away alot of stress for everyone involved, and the placecards make this really easy. And i would be really p***ed off if they were ignored, but i know they wont be because like i say, lots of small families who wouldnt want to end up seperated so will respect that other people wont.getting married: 02/10/10
