  • Well I could do what others said and offer a 10% and ask for a 28 day period to repay all costs.

Feel free to offer but frankly I cannot see them waiting given your previous record of misconduct and attitude.

Whats to say your not just stalling to do a runner with a final paycheck?

    True.

Well in that case. I can make payment as fast as possible - ask wife to take out the credit card.

So what you mean is you can make the payment; you just want to do it with the most inconvenience to your employer and least to you.

Your thought process in this is completely flawed. If need be you should be pawning your car or taking out payday loans.

if you have been "a victim of theft" and that is the card you are playing with your employer I would have expected you to have the crime number from the police and shopped your brother.

I would get £2k together by any means possible and have it ready to hand over.

That sounds like good advice to me.

Obviously - we cant be held responsible for the conduct of our relatives. Having said that - the firm is going to find it difficult to believe that you could have known someone for as long as you have known your brother and not realize by now that they couldnt be trusted and take appropriate action to safeguard yourself against him.

Obviously - we dont know what the disciplinary action previously taken against you was about. However - the only hope you have right now is to repay all money instantly to your employer and sort it out with your brother later - before telling him "never to darken your door again". With that - you might - just might - save your job. I have to confess to being astonished that you dont appear anxious to repay all the money instantly - rather than trying to negotiate some "arrangement" with them.

You are coming over though as not totally astonished/upset/angry as one would expect a person to be if their own relative had stolen from them. Most of us would be totally livid/very upset indeed/etc if a relative really had stolen from them and we ourselves were honest person/had taken due care and attention. I do have to say that - given your attitude - I suspect your employer will now "grab the money (ie what they are owed by you) and run".

Hopefully - you will learn to take due note of other peoples character in future and due care of your possessions.

No, no no! aren't you listening at all?

What's stopping the company right now from going to the police?

why are you on FWW etc? (you don't have to answer that). if that was for breach of passwords etc or fraud then the company are well within their rights to fire your !!!.

sorry if this sounds harsh but it's TRUE. Put themselves in your shoes.

Don't let these people panic you. If your company are going to sack you after handling it as I suggest, then I think that you would be sacked anyway.

Just because the company say that a bill was racked up, it is not necessarily so. It is reasonable to go straight in with 10% to show that you are willing. It is also reasonable for you to expect them to give you a copy of an itemised bill and a fair opportunity to challenge anything which is not your responsibility.

He quite clearly concedes that his brother took the phone due to his lack of safekeeping. Why on earth do you think he should be trying to create more work for the victims?

You are having an absolute laugh mate. Sometimes companies do an internal investigation (like they may be doing this weekend) and then pounce.

You seem to have glossed over the fact that OP states he's on 12 month prob period after a FWW. And that's besides the fact that this mobile has been let out of his sight etc for someone else to abuse.

I know, if I were an employer, sadly I would not be all understanding in this case.
  • You should tell your brother to take the £2k out on a credit card, not your wife. He should pay the bill.

I'm still bewildered by your explanation about your brother - it seems unbelievable that a 21 year old man would not be aware of the costs involved in using a mobile phone, or the consequences of stealing his brother's mobile phone and using it abroad at his leisure. You do mean he is 21 don't you, and not 12?

He has a right to see the evidence of the loss. Only a fool would take an employer's or anyones' sayso for £2000. This is not about being obstructive. Remember that the OP is a victim too.

I am deadly serious and I am not glossing over the FWW. I think it is arguable whether OP has been irresponsible with the phone. You might not be understanding. But if you would not take £200 immediately and give the OP 28 days to make amends and give him sight of the bill which he is alleged to be responsible for, you are hardly likely to be reasonable in any way, so it is not worth the effort.

Why has the op removed the initial post from the thread, had you lot upset them. OP you were given a mobile from your employer and its your responsibility to look after it and to make sure its not misused in anyway. Offer to pay a large proprtion of the amount or the whole lot when you have the meeting or take a cheque in with you for said amount and say u will pay teh rest back within so many days or 2 weeks, if anything your brother should be stumping up some of the cash eg half. id prepare yourself for the worst case scenario.
