    Some time ago I switched from BT to onetel.
    I was never keen on onetel but they assured me that all their service would be the equivalent to BT in every way. I asked if there were any restrictions on prefix numbers and I was told there wasn't.

    I've been with onetel for about a year now and until I get a better offer I'm staying with Onetel

    I pay £9.99 pm line rental and I get free wekend calls to landlines, free voicemail

    No Restrictions on prefix providers so I happily go on using 18185 as a prefix

    It only falls down on caller display which I can live without

    http://www.onetel.co.uk/index.php?node=landline-line-rental&ref=hf-def-hp

    I may go with Madasafish for broadband but unless they start to allow prefix providers I'm sticking with onetel
    OneTel are now part of the TalkTalk (Carphone Warehouse) empire so, if you can still use 18185, you're lucky (they've barred such access for some customers).

    IMHO, you'be be better off with BT Together Option 1 line rental:

    BT Together Option 1;

    Primus Saver Option 2 (free evening and weekend calls of up to 90 minutes to UK 01/02 numbers for NO monthly fee);

    And continuing to use 18185 for your weekday daytime UK 01/02 calls, your calsl to UK mobiles (077, 078 and 079 numbers) and [most of] your 0845/0870 calls (if you can't find geographical alternatives on SayNoTo0870.com).

    Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    Perhaps they are trying not to upset existing customers because I'm experiencing no changes to my account.
    Theres one catch with BT though.
    To rejoin and to get the free weekends calls you have to tie into an 18 month contract.
    Its all swings and roundabouts.
    For the moment I'll stay with the devil I know

    I think that madasafish may be wise to consider allowing prefix providers. They may find themselves winning over a huge number of customers

    Wouldn't blocking providers like 18185 be considered anti competitive anyway?

    You misunderstood.

    I didn't suggest you take up the BT 'offer' to get (for a short period) free weekend calls.

    I suggested you used BT for landline rental, Primus for free evening and weekend UK 01/02 calls calls and 18185 for your weekday daytime UK 01/02 calls etc.

    I agree with Heinz, it sounds as though you can save even more money by using BT only for linerental, Primus for evening & weekend calls with no monthly fee and Call18185 for daytime calls.

    To go back to BT for linerental would be free but there may be a minimum term contract of 3months but I'm not sure if that applies in your cases. It does if going back to BT after using say cable, etc (ie completely different landline providers) but not sure if it's applicable for you as you already have your line with BT just that you pay the money to OneTel who then pass the money back to BT.

    Even if there is a minimum term, it's only 3 months but you have piece of mind knowing that BT won't (because they're not allowed to) stop you from using any other provider available unlike OneTel, etc who can.

    You could get free caller display then and just route the odd call to 08x numbers via them to maintain it (if you want caller display that is).

    It depends on your usage really but most people make geographical calls evening & weekends which is where the Primus package is excellent.

    Also, with Primus, their free evening & weekend geographical calls is for upto 90mins per call. I believe OneTel is 70mins, the same as TalkTalk. Not much different I realise but is still better none the less.

    You could try just ringing OneTel and say you want to cancel your service because you're moving and see if they'll match the free evening & weekend calls. If they offer this then ensure you're not subject to any minimum term contract at all and can still leave at any time. I doubt though that any offer OneTel would be on a longterm basis unlike Primus'.

    Whats going on?

    Yesterday I expressed my feelings on Madasafish how they ignore concerns from users being unable to use prefix providers and my post has been deleted

    This issue is clearly a big minus when it comes to weighing up what could be a good service to opt for as an alternative to BT and Talk Talk/Onetel

    BT now require an 18 month contract for new customers to be elegible for free weekend calls but if your with them you may use prefix providers

    I am with Ontel and get free weekend calls to landlines AND I am able to use prefix providers such as 18866 or 18185.

    I am probably going to switch to Madasafish for broadband but I'm hardly going to entertain using them for their telephone service since I'd obviously be getting higher phone bills. Especially while they bury their heads in the sand over the prefix provider issue which is the impression I am getting.

    I hope this post is not ignored or deleted as were previous posts I made
