Bath in the bedroom

Since staying in a luxury hotel with open plan bathroom I have always fancied putting a roll top bath in our bedroom. I am however a bit concerned that when we come to resell the house it may put people off. What is everyone's views on this - would it put you off or would it make it more attractive too you? The market around here is mainly retirees so any views of the 60+ age group would be much appreciated.
For some context - we live in a detached house in a rural village. It is 8 years old but in quite a traditional style - oak beams and edwardian style windows. Upstairs there are 4 bedrooms two of which have ensuites with showers and there is a separate but very small bathroom with a bath.
I would like to put the bath in the main bedroom which measures approx 22' x 15' minus the current ensuite space which takes a corner off of the bedroom and measures approx 6' x 7'. I would leave the ensuite as is (it has 2 sinks, shower, toilet and bidet). The bedroom has high ceilings as there is no attic so seems larger than it actually is.
Do people think this idea would be appealing or would it make the bedroom seem too cramped? An alternative idea would be to make the current ensuite larger so I could incorporate a bath and replace the wall with a sliding panel so it is semi open to the bedroom.
Any views would be appreciated.

this would make the property more flexible... you could leave the panel open and new buyers can shut it.....0 -
It'd put me off... and I'd titter when I saw it, then immediately come here to the forum and post "Hey, guess what this oddball's got..."0

...the option of making the current ensuite semi open would however be substantially more expensive as it would require removing a wall and reconfiguring all the pluming and position of the appliances in the ensuite to make way for the bath.0

The other thing to worry about is condensation. I think I'd be put off. I agree with clutton your idea for the ensuite is good- could almost have a Japanese feel with sliding doors. Re the cost - it could end up costing you more when you come to sell if people don't like it
If you think you are too small to make a difference, try getting in bed with a mosquito!

lol - I was afraid that might be many peoples reaction.
Here is an example of the sort of thing I was thinking of

You are right though - the people in the pic do look at bit odd!0 -
Sorry, but it would definitely put me off.
If I could find a similar property with (in my own view) a bath in a 'sensible' place, I'd buy that one. If I couldn't, I'd make a lower offer for your house - to take account of the cost of removing or moving the bath. I don't think I could live with a bath in my bedroom.0 -
I was given (a rather impolite, I thought) lecture the other day. I need a new kitchen appliance, and thought I'd try to spend the money locally. More fool me; I asked if he had anything similar to the model I'd picked out online and got a lecture on how nobody would buy it if he stocked it and nobody would buy my house if I fitted it. I needed "something that wouldn't scare the horses", presumably like the ones he had on display that I didn't actually like.
Anyway...the point is whether or not you think he had a point. A bath in the bedroom would put me off big time, I admit. The "Building Work Needed!!!!" buzzer in my head would be screaming.
But I apparently have terrible taste in gas hobs, so I wouldn't worry too much about what I think.import this0 -
If the bedroom is huge I think its a nice idea, so long as you have an ensuite with a loo, basin & shower too. But if its one or the other - go for the ensuite.0

I often wonder about baths in bedrooms , what the heck happens if you accidentally splash water over the side as its going straight on the floor and presumably through the ceiling downstairs?
I think I would be put off although I like the idea ....#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j
