    Primrose's advice is sound.

I like to get my plants back outside asap, so I'd guess my overwintered one went out again in late April/May (with care taken on potentially frosty nights.) It is still fruiting. This is a small variety, which is easier to keep indoors. It is fine, but I don't think it looks vigorous enough now for a second overwinter.

    Hi All,

I bought myself a little medusa chilli plant with loads of chillis on - they are red and really could do with harvesting.

    I've read the posts here, but;;;

Do I take them off and freeze them as they are?

Or do I ahve to dry them out first?

The last one I tried to dry out - went all mouldy, what did I do wrong

I have some white fly appearing, so what am I best to do, can I keep the plan over winter and it will crop next year??? or it spent?

Yes you can freeze chillis as they are.

If you dry them out, you are doing so so you can store them in an air proof jar or tin.

Most people seem to use their airing cupboard as a place to dry things out. I don't have one so haven't worked out a way of drying out things that are not leaves.

Get rid of the plant as it's not worth the hassle of dealing with pests.

Take one of your ripe chillis, collect the seeds then sow a them next February/March.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)

Possibly a Hungarian or Bulgarian variety, since Romania doesn't figure in any of the names I've seen. Now watch someone prove me wrong!

    Drying out any chillis...
I pop some rice in the oven, over 100 degrees c but not too hot, usually best when you've been using the oven for other things and pop the rice in for half an hour or so.

Pop the rice in an airtight jar and leave to cool completely.

Once cool, you can put a few chillis in there, and the a little at a time, and the rice will suck the water out of the chilli and you can then store it. Come back after a few days and if they aren't dry, redry the rice and repeat. I use this for seeds and bay leaves, but it would work just as well for chillis.

Or, string them up together and hang them somewhere to dry.

Or, just chop and freeze in amounts that you use, I pop mine onto cling film in a long row and snap off as much as I need straight into the cooking pan.

Anybody got any suggestions for using chilli's??????
I only got two plants but there are millions of the flipin things.
I've already made some green tomato and chilli chutney, I also made some realy realy nice sweet chilly sauce.
These things are realy, realy hot, definately hotter than the pickled jalapeno's I tried from Tezco's, and I must remember to get some latex gloves next time I prepare them for cooking.

BTW here's my recipe I made for the sweet chilli sauce. ( basicaly I just threw a load of stuff in a pan....:D )

    2Kg plum tomato's (unprepared)
    100grms sugar ( I used granulated )
1-2 tsp dried garlic ( add to taste )
    1 tblsp Worcester sauce
    salt and crushed pepper corns
fresh chilli's to taste ( I only added a couple, but these things are lethal )

Blanch the toms remove the skins and de-seed ( just leaving the flesh )
place in a pan with half a cup of water add rest of ingredients...

Bring to the boil and then reduce the heat and simmer for about half an hour stiring constantly....( this is important )

When the sauce is thick enough remove from the heat and place in blender untill smooth.

Finaly pass the sauce through a sive, and bottle.

I was luck, I had just finished my bottle of Worcester sauce so I stealised the bottle while I was cooking the sauce. It sounds like alot of tomato's but it just about filled the Worcester sauce bottle with a little left over.
To travel at the speed of light, one must first become light.....
