We went into slough for a pizza after our couple of days at legoland, it's wise to start at the back of the park and work forward.

as regards the picnic we left ours in one of the lockers and got it at lunchtime

we're off to legoland too this week!

I'm going to take a picnic for lunch but would like to eat out afterwards. Where would you all recommend going that's not too far away? Is it best to head into Windsor? What's the parking like there?

I'm sure we'll all be tired and hungry by the end of the day so any clues on which way to head will probably avoid an arguement!

    thanks

Windsor is not cheap for food. Windsor is not cheap for anything really! Although there are a couple of great restaurants, I cannot recommend any family friendly ones in Windsor as I haven't found any yet! Parking in central Windsor is abysmal.

There is a Harvester near to Windsor Racecourse (you will see it, only a few hundred yards away really) and at least you know what you will get from the Harvester, plus kids menus!! Where abouts are you staying? We may be able to pin point somewhere to eat nearer to your hotel (assuming you are staying!!)

staying at the heathrow travelodge...I know it's not the nearest travelodge to legoland but i wanted to get a £26 family room and also free parking.

Thanks for the warning about Windsor, had a feeling it was that kind of place!

Windsor is a great place to go, but being "Royal" and snobby, can be very pricey!

But for a nearby day out, there is not really anywhere else to go!

There is another Harvester in Slough, just off Junction 5 (going towards Heston from Windsor on the M4 - the next junction down from Windsor) at the same junction just before the Harvester, is a Toby Carvery on the right opposite the Marriott - quite good and both are only a few hundred yards from the Motorway (come off the Motorway, take the Slough/Langley turn off and you will see the Marriott infront of you - the Toby is on the right at the cross roads and the harvester is on the left after the crossroads.)

I do not really know the Heston/Ruislip area very well. Its never appealed to me, so I have no idea whats there!

Incorrect - up on Castle Hill there are MacGrease, Burger King, Pizza Hut - all charging their standard rip off Britain prices but no different to any other High St. Also on Castle Hill there is a LLoyds No 1 doing extremely good value meals inc childs menu plus their sister outfit Wetherspoons in I believe William St (left at the bottom of Peascod St). At Wetherspoons a family of 4 can have a proper hot sit down meal each for a total of £12 2 x Kids Meals £2.99 ea inc drink - plus adults 2 meals for £6. I doubt if Harvester/Toby can come anywhere near that
  • Go to the Lloyds No 1 bar! its cheap and good, and if you go up stairs you get views over the castle!! Really easy to find aswell, go to the castle and then head towards macdonalds and its just past there! Think its called the king and castle!! Its so good and cheap that you may find theres a few of the legoland staff in there aswell!!
  • I visited last week and I have to say do both. The kids menus in the restaurants are £2.99 for burger (or nuggets or sausage or....) and chips and drink and a gift. If you are a pass holder you can get up to 25% discount (at pizza place where you get 1/2 pizza plus garlic bread plus drink and gift). Good value in my opinion. However, the adult prices are an absolute rip off (£6.59 for bowl of pasta spirals and a couple of spoonfuls of tasteless sauce...extra for a drink!!). Since the aim of the day is to please the kids, give them the meal and take just enough picnic for yourself.

Having been there I see what you mean!

We ended up going into Slough and eating at Nandos. Never been there before but was quite impressed with the speed of service and value for money. Portion sizes were small but I prefer that to having to leave half the food on your plate because you're too full up. OH kept saying " I can't beleive they only serve chicken" but after a brain jangling day at legoland it was nice not to have too much to chose from...we just wanted to eat and then have a lie down (getting old!)

thanks for all the tips and feedback!
