Is ebay one just big scam for the poor sellers??

There are many private sellers on ebay, who dont quite understand the rules, risks etc.

Many items are listed as postage 1st/2nd class standard.

Am i right in saying that all the assh0le buyers can just make a claim against not receiving any of these items, no matter of its value and they will win. They will either get a refund or two of everything they buy.

So essentially if you are an assh0le buyer, there are lots of freebies on ebay.

I know its up to the sellers to organise trackable postage, but some dont know?

Thoughts please.

Yes it has all gone that way now. At least with the old way of leaving feedback for the buyer, you could leave appropriate warnings. No more. Ebay care?? :rotfl:

I never send anything under £41 tracked. Not had a clain in the last 1500 items. Most buyers are honest otherwise I wouldn't be selling. As recorded doesn't track a lot of the time its a waste of money anyway. If you think all buyers are out to con you maybe ebay isn't right for you

Leaving FB for buyers makes no difference as it wont stop people sniping

Its not advice for me ;) im a well established business seller. And like you, i use the same tracking method around the £40 mark.

Ive just had some friends who have sold things recently. One took his top spec custom PC apart and sold the components and it turns out everything that wasnt sent recorded got 'lost' in the post and hes had to refund. All 28 parts sold on the same day, to about 20 different buyers. 12 of these parts go as standard post and they all got 'lost.' These were the cheap things like various cables etc.

    Very strange :(

I'd say that was a lost sack somewhere in the RM system, rather than a load of dubious buyers.

As above, I've sent somewhere in the regiion of 30,000 items out in the last 6 years or so, and I doubt I've had more than 20 go awol in that time. Saying that, 3 of them were Fast and Furious DVD's, which may indicate the type of buyer that is interested in that film...

The overwhelming majority of ebay users are fine to deal with, but don't forget that they are the general public, so you will always get some bad apples in there.
There are also some categories that are more difficult to sell in than others, clothing being something that is very subjective, and mobile phones/MP3 players etc that are more likely to attract rogue buyers.

  • It's not ebay's job to hold everybody's hand.

Nothing of ours goes tracked, we get only a few item not recieved.

With that rate of dissaperance I'd have to assume one of two things:

Your friends packaging is not up to scratch- partial addresses, sticky tape that doesn't, something.
Or there is a thief at the sorting office.

    That's a very high rate.
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine. :p

I'm fairly sure that there aren't any buyers who do this regularly and get away with it.

As others have said its fairly easy to stay in control, track more expensive items. I get very few problems with buyers claiming lost items and when I do they are genuine, given thatt I do 10000 plus transactions a year there are less than a handful that try it on. The ability to leave negative feedback is irrelevant, anyone trying to scam goods wouldn't care about a red dot on a computer screen and I know I never check bidders feedback before they have bought anything.

I think it is easy to get the impression that things are very likely to go wrong. We only see posts here about problems but I find losses are a very low proportion. Last year 2 or 3 out of about 2000 of my orders went astray. The vast majority of buyers and sellers are honest.

Anyone having a high percentage not received needs to have a good look at what they are doing. Insecure packaging, badly written/ incorrect delivery addresses and a lack of a return address are probably more to do with it than the PO staff stealing stuff or false claims of non-receipt (although of course these do happen albeit very rarely).

Nothing under £41 goes tracked for me and my losses are neglible. Every item over £41 goes special though.

I love all my competitors to use recorded, it means I can outsell them at every point as I am cheaper than them and my best match over rides them entirely.

If I honestly believed that all buyers on ebay were out to get me then I wouldn't sell on there. Luckily I am paranoid in some areas of life, but not with my ebay buyers.

On the flip side, I have bid and won on a lot of DVDs/PS3 & Xbox 360 games recently, quite a few have been through the lastminuteauction website.

There has been a huge increase in the number of items not arriving, which could lead me to think that some sellers are not happy with the end price for their items and just don't bother to send them, hoping that the buyer will not notice and it will go out of time for a claim......

    Not notice? Is that likely?
