  • I've got into the habit of cooking a big batch of chicken n' veg with Ainsley Harriet flavoured rice from cost co every Sunday night, then pouring it all into tuppawares for lunches (or dinners) during the week.

Great way of getting a hot lunch (ala microwave) without having to buy out all the time.

For heavily stained items (such as kitchen towels) I now soak them in Biotex stain removing powder and then just get rid of the water, I don't bother rinsing it and then it goes straight in the washing machine. I have also done this with clothes where the stain hasn't gone from washing it. So far, it has removed all stains I have tried it on. Brilliant stuff!

Just saved myself at least £10 for repairing my trouser pockets. These are my favourite work trousers and I was considering giving them to the tailor to fix. I have no sewing machine. Suddenly I realised I had some mending fabric at home that I bought years ago and I have just repaired both pockets using the mending fabric with a brilliant result. I am feeling really pleased with myself.

I forgot all about Biotex, I used to use it years ago to soak terry nappies, it used to remove all the stains and bring them up lovely and white. I'll have to look out for it again, do supermarkets still sell it or do they just stock the big brands like Vanish now?

  • I get a charity bag through the letter box almost every day and as a result get a stack of them. If I gave something to them all the house would be empty! So I keep some for when I do take something to charity shops. The rest I use as bin bags for my kitchen bin. They work a treat and save on bin bags.
  • I also used to use biotex years ago, I thought theyd stop making it, would love to know what shops stock it

I buy Biotex in my local Sainsbury's. I used to be able to get in them in the 99 pence shop or equivalent shop but haven't seen it there for at least a year. Perhaps you are luckier than me. A box lasts for ages though, I only use a spoon or so. Good luck in finding it.

Try your local chemists if you have no joy with the discount shops. Mine stock it.

A good way to stop shoes rubbing (especially if you're wearing them with no tights or socks) is a sprinkling on talc in your shoes. This is much cheaper than the specialist sprays you get.
