I shall be investing in a box of Biotex I think.
My teenage daughter has to wear white polo shirts for school and the underarms have gone yellow :(, I have tried various other stain removing solutions and non seem to work very well at all.

I hope a soak in Biotex will do the trick!

    Underarm Stain on Clothing

Dissolve 8 - 10 aspirins in a cup of warm water. Soak the underarm area of the garment in this for 30 mins and then wash as normal. Be sure to through the aspirin water away immediately.

Have to admit not tried it as yet but I wish I had known that years ago when my three were at school with their white polo shirts as I never found anything to get the marks out except bleach and had to use it carefully on just the area as polo shirts all had embroidered house badges on them in colour.

  • Pix, yes you can keep a dilute stardrops solution in a spray bottle. I use a mix of vinegar and stardrops, really makes my hob shine. use plenty of water in the solution. I read that it should be a third water, third stardrops and third vinegar, but I make mine much weaker. Experiment to find what you like best. Don't worry about the vinegar smell, it seems to evaporate really quickly.

Pix for the dishwasher 1put half a mug of vinegar upright on the top shelf of otherwise empty DW and put it on hot cycle. I do it 1st of each month? I also put a couple of spoons of soda crysals on each plug and flush with hot water

    Thank you both, much appreciated.

I've got a load of these too and was going to use them for bin liners but then realised they have ventilation holes in them. No good for me as i put cat litter in the bin and it would fall through the holes :o

Some of mine don't have holes in so they'd be ok. Otherwise could you put the litter in a carrier bag first? I do this with nappies to cut down on smells. Or perhaps double bag? I doubt the holes would be in the same places and the top one would catch any escaped bits.
    Just a thought.
  • Not sure if already featured but did a OS mission with my tresemme conditioner bottle earlier - thought had run out, nothing was coming out of it anymore but I hacked it down to about 2 inches in height with scissors, used a plastic glove (get them free*) to scoop it all down from sides into the bottom, turned glove inside out when removing and used it stretched it over the retained pot - now have enough for a good 5 or more hairwashes :) The shampoo bottle will get the same treatment!

  • Not sure if this has been covered but as you may know there are thermostically controlled valves available which can be fitted for about £150 which reduce water and gas consumption on a combi-boiler. However you can achieve the same effect by following this procedure;
    1. put the plug in
    2. turn the hot tap on just enough to turn the boiler on
    3. wait until the water starts to become hot
    4. turn the tap full on
Turning the tap full on from the start slows down the heating effect, wastes water and gas.

If you are on a water meter, more reason to follow this.
  • I really want to use up old products instead of throwing them away. Today I started with a tin of baking powder that I had, so I goggled its uses and have decided to use it together with toothpaste, apparently it acts as a whitening agent, mmmmm, I'll let you know if its working just give me a couple days......

    - I tie a knot in the bottom of the charity bags then use them for cat litter, then the holes are in the knot area.
    - I set the alarm on my phone when charging it so I remember to unplug it.
    - I use a timer when cooking, so I don't over cook items.
-I use sharpie permanent pens for labling plastic boxes, then nailvarnish remover pads to clean them off. This works best on smooth surface plastic.
    - when buying online I always look for a reduction code for the store.
    - avoid online delivery charges and claim nee customer benefits by creating a new account with your second email address or your partners.
    - when buying a new item, check which colour is cheapest i.e. a white kettle can be £10 cheaper than the black model.
    - I wash out my ziplock bags and dry them, when I use them for storing root veggies/ brassicas in the fridge. It keeps these veggies in better condition for longer as it retains the moisture they need for freshness.

My DM has always used baking powder to clean her teeth. She's 91 and only has 4 false teeth, at the front following an accident many years ago, so although I'm not sure it would taste the best I can vouch for it working :D

I've also heard salt is as effective but somehow don't think I fancy a mouthful of salt  (and wouldn't it be too abrasive?)
  • Butterfly Brain - where do you find white vinegar for 52p per bottle. Costs me over double that per bottle.
