So annoyed I had to light gas fire today due to awful weather. I thought I would catch up on the forum and very soon I was so warm from my lap top I was able to turn fire off. I'll remember that and plan my browsing accordingly :D

if you pull a tissue apart so that you only have one layer (does that make sense?!) it will also do the job...for blotting oily skin, not rolling ciggies!

Don't do as I did when buying cigarette papers for OH, I just pointed and said "those green ones please",(I don't smoke) turns out I'd bought papers for the 'other' kind of roll-ups!!!! OH thought this was hilarious, I was mortified!

I've just the advert for the packet coating for chicken, you know the one where she dips the chicken in egg, coats it in this packet coating then bakes?

I do the same rolling of eyes and tut-tutting whenever I see ads for sauce-mix or batter-mix on the telly. Batter-mix! Honestly, it makes me want to organise an intervention when I see them in someone's shopping-trolley. There are useless and expensive things in supermarkets, many, many things, but those prendre le biscuit
  • I work in a supermarket and frequently get asked for batter mix. We sell the shakey- one- in- a- bottle and a smaller packet one, which contains flour, raising agent and milk powder. Even when I explain that it's really just an expensive way to buy flour people assume that because it's in a packet it's somehow easier or better than DOING IT PROPERLY!

If I lose a button off something and don't have a spare, I change every other button for another in a similar size but contrasting colour (it looks fab!). Charity shops are a great source of buttons. Most will get in a box and sell it as is for a couple of pounds. Not all display them so you may need to ask.

    Great thread!

My tip is not to throw away batteries that have 'died' that were used in 'high power' devices i.e. camera, kids toys, shaver etc etc.
They may have run out of juice for these things but you'll be surprised at how much is still left to run 'low power' things such as remote controls, wall/alarm clocks etc.

The battery I have in one of my wall clocks 'died' about a month ago from my camera but has been powering the clock ever since. :T

If the cuffs of your favourite blouse are looking a bit tired or frayed, then edge it with the ribbon loops you get in tops (I keep all these) it'll only take a few minutes to sew on and keep your blouse looking great.

If you run out of face powder you can use a tiny amount of corn powder (about 1/4 tsp max will be enough for face and neck) will stop your face going shiny.
