Getting marmite out the bottom of the jar with a knife is practically impossible.
Solution.....use teaspoon and you find that jar you were about to throw away will give up a couple more teaspoons of marmite
A small scrapper works well too.
I often add some hot water to the jar, leave it in for a while, then swill it around and pour it into the pan when I'm making soup.
sparrer I'm well too thanks.
unixgirluk I must look out for a solar lantern.I've just remembered that you can get a solar lamp in Ik*a,I must have a look....It works on the same principle I believe.0 -
I'm loving the tips and I'm starting to make notes on the ones I think I'll use. I feel as though I 'owe' a tip but can't think of many I haven't seen before. This is all I can think of, apologies if it's already been mentioned or its something everyone knows already!
Save water from boiling potatoes and use this when you make bread. You can then use cheap plain flour instead of strong bread flour and it will still come out beautifully. It doesn't look or taste any different to usual. This works in breadmakers and making it by hand.0 -
I use the water from boiling potatoes to make the gravy etc0

for the last dregs of peanut butter, I dip my knife into boiling water (just poured into my cup to make tea or coffee) leave it 10 seconds then take it out quickly dry it and scrape it round the sides and bottom of the peanut butter jar. I can always get enough for another 2 slices doing this.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0 -
Interesting to read the recent posts about saving electricity as I've just had my bill so am more focused than ever. I have a small wind up lantern that I take when I want to go up stairs to my bathroom. I also find this sufficient to shower by. I've got solar lights for indoor use but find I can't get much out of them in the winter.
I also have a stainless steel flask that I fill with boiling water every night I leave work. We have those zip boilers that are constantly cycling to boiling point, so I'm taking something that would otherwise be wasted. It means I get a free cup of tea when I get home. If I don't fancy one, I just use it to start the washing up off and fill the bowl with some cold water.0 -
Lay the Marmite jar on it's curved side for a few hours and the last dregs of Marmite will collect in the curved part. It's surprising how much is in an "empty" jar!2

I have a few tips to share.
When a nail polish has gone all gloopy/you can't get the last of it out, add some clear nail polish to it. I just saved 2 nail polishes from the bin by doing thisI used a W7 polish which has a runny consistency and is dirt cheap. Here you can get it for £1.99 free delivery, you can't go wrong.
Instead of getting a fancy toner that would cost around £5ish, use rosewater! You can find it in the oriental section of supermarkets like Asda, Tesco and Sainburys, and its about £1.50.
Asda bath foam is 40p for 1000ml and the shower gel is 30p for 300ml. You can add some essential oils to make it smell nice, and put it in a pretty bottle - no one will know that its not from L'Occitaine!0 -
Add a squirt of washing up liquid in the powder draw, or directly on the washing if targeting a stain.Gets stuff really clean. Ive squirted for over 3 seconds with no 'over foaming' issues.
If washing nappies that are poopy or clothes of the other little mud monster I add a squirt of washing up liquid to the pre-wash (I set it to cold rinse first) to breakdown the grease, mud and any poop stains.
Never had an issue with foaming either, I think so many people get brainwashed by the big companies in to thinking if they used anything else other than stuff designed for washing they will break their machine.
I'm using value shampoo to wash with and the odd scoop of nappisan from the £1shop and have had less problems than I used to do when I was using powder and liquids.Little Person Number 4 Due March 2012

There are 2 recipes for HM dog biscuits on January grocery challenge # 6. You may have to wait until your puppy is a little older.
