I work in a charity shop and as some of the stuff is virtually new a lot of people are getting their presents bought from us.
August PAD14 -
Instead of big presents at Christmas, we do a ’charity shop challenge’ to find the most bizarre/bad taste/funny thing we can find in our local charity shops on a budget of £5. We end up with all sorts of funny ornaments, cooking utensils, toys and clothing to unwrap on the day. There’s usually a stand out winner (I think last year’s was some dainty floral tea cups and saucers with inspirational messages full of spelling mistakes) They usually end up back in the charity shops but give us all a good giggle as well as a donation to charity. One person’s trash is another’s treasure!Bread, and roses too.18

NoraNoir I know someone who does the same thing.
A friend of mine has a small family, usually 7 adults at Christmas so they draw a name and you have to make something, gift something of yours and buy something no more than £10 for that person. The makes last year included biscuits, fudge, knitted hat, lip balm, a painting from the artist in the family. My friend's husband gifted her one of his jumpers as 'she wore it more than him' Definitely means people have to think about gifts.

For some reason I stopped receiving this thread when the forum format changed and I only recently clicked an option button ccidentalky whixh restored it. I hope the ideas keep coming or even reinventing themselves as it's easy to forget some of the useful tips.
wr,ve found we,re massively in credit with our energy provider and are unsure whether to leave the situation as it is to give us peace of mind if we have a very cold winter and need the heating on more, or to ask for a refund, althiugh I resent them earning interest on our money on the short term money mwrket.7 -
I've started to put a few pounds onto my Asda Christmas savings card. I've set it up to save a set amount each Monday so when it gets to the cut off date in November I should have enough saved for the Christmas food and some left over for most of January. I pay on a credit card which pays me back for using it and I pay it off IN FULL every month! So... Asda pay me for putting money on their card and my credit card pays me for using it! Win win! I don't save on the Asda card all year because I'd rather get some interest on it in my savings account. I can cope with a few weeks because the difference is in my favour!2025 Fashion on the ration
