Thank you for your suggestions. Anything open I will keep but I’ve got quite a few (13, I’ve just counted them) still in their boxes. I’m going to donate them to the food bank. It makes sense that if someone can’t afford food then they can’t afford toiletries. They might enjoy a bit of luxury and some of my toiletries are expensive - Baylis and Harding, spa sanctuary, ritual of Sakura, La maison de senteurs and that’s just the top four.6

Really enjoying this thread, I’m only about a quarter of the way through it but thought I’d skip ahead to leave a tip.Using a micro fibre towel to dry my hair instead of using a hairdryer. It dries much quickly than a normal and doesn’t go fluffy.6

My money saving tips de jour: I routinely dye my hair on a 4-5 week cycle. Each pack of dye comes with a pair of gloves and a small bottle of very thick hair conditioner. Rather than throwing out the gloves after dying my hair, I dry them and reuse them the next time. My record is 29 uses before a glove tore/got a hole. I save the unused pairs in a drawer and use them whenever a pair of disposable gloves would be handy, e.g. when making homemade chocolates.
One bottle of the conditioner is enough for three dye sessions. I'll save the other two bottles and use them to refill the pump action bottle I use for my regular hair conditioner. (It was once a liquid soap dispenser.) The conditioner waters down well, so I'll squeeze as much as I can out of the original bottle, refill it with water, give it a good shaking and add that to my hair conditioner bottle. Give that bottle another good shaking and now I have a month's premium hair conditioner for "free". (I wash my hair every day and this absolutely the best hair conditioner I have ever used.)

Look up homemade hair dye on the internet, no chemicals and it works, for instance I have been using lemon juice for years
- 1 part water
- 2 parts lemon juice
- a spray bottle
Prep-Time
2-3 minutes
Processing Time
45 minutes to 1 hour
Here’s what you need to do:
- Mix lemon juice and water and fill it in a spray bottle.
- Spray this mixture all over your hair.
- Sit outside in the sun or blow-dry your hair.
- You can apply this once a week.
- It works faster if you sit in the sun and allow your hair to dry naturally

I've gone grey now but when I used to colour my hair I found that the tubes of conditioner mounted up, as you only need a small amount. My niece used it for her daughter who had long hair which was prone to tangle. She said that it worked very well. My hairdresser was pleased to receive extras also as she said that it was a very good conditioner. (I also used to pass on unused gift packs of toiletries as she had a nice gesture of giving some ladies a little gift if it was their birthday or she thought that they could do with a little treat!) Hairdressers can pick up a lot of knowledge about you

I stopped dying my hair in September. I am in my late 40's. My mum stopped dying her hair at 70. Not taking into account of cost of living increases, I am going to save £15k+ because I have stopped dying it much earlier.2025 Fashion on a ration 0/66 coupons
