SeaVixen said: How do you both find cleaning out the mayo bottle between uses?I assume you've got to get all the previous mayo out and clean it properly. I might re-use a plain cylinder one from my garlic mayo rather than the Hellmans one as it's probably easier to clean.8

Sallygirl said:When the mayo is getting very low, I put in a teaspoon of cider vinegar (homemade from apple peel and cores) and give it a good shake. The mayo is a tiny bit runnier and so I get a lot more of it out to use without the taste being altered very much. When I have got out as much as I can, I put in some water and give it a good shake. That might end up in a white sauce or a cheese sauce or something or if all else fails, thrown in the compost bin. It is now easier to wash out. I always keep a bottle of Milton and a drop of that is good for sterilising the bottle before refilling.
thank you!3 -
QueenJess said:Use loose dishwasher powder instead of the tablets. It costs much less and then you can put in much less each time too. Apparently per a guy who fixes dishwashers, it is better for them anyway and there is no need to use the tablets if you already use rinse aid and salt.3

I can't say I've ever seen any citric acid when I've been shopping but then again I've never looked for any:rotfl: as to be honest I'd never heard of it until reading about it on here:o. What sort of shop sells this? This is a very rural area with little choice of shops in our nearest small town.
You could try at your local pharmacy. Failing that Wilko stock it as does Amazon.
I buy in 500g bags and it lasts me quite a while from supermarket (I don't think UK supermarkets stock it). It can come in powdered or granular form.3 -
Morning Peeps,
I've just discovered this last week another way of using up very expensive bath oil.( the cream and black boxed Malone) which has been sat about on bathroom window bottom waiting to get used & I haven't had a bath for years, out of choice:D . I think this may have been a freebie or came with something else. I do decant shower gel into a bigger dispense pump bottle. Currently its a fragrance free one. I put the gel on and then drizzled the oil over the top - worked brilliantly and yes I had bubbles. Told hubby this too as its a dual purpose fragrance.

I have around 12 or 13 boxes of unused toiletries - presents for birthdays, Christmas and Mother’s Day from my 4 sons and wives and grandchildren. I also have about 10 bottles of bubble bath opened and approx 8 hand creams on the go. I have lost count of how many soaps are in my underwear drawers. The grandchildren love choosing a bubble bath when they stay or a bath bomb but as you can imagine I am stockpiled. I have occasionally told my offspring this and asked for no toiletries this Christmas etc. but even if they miss one event they still keep coming.I do use diluted bubble bath in hand dispensers and as my face creams are getting low intend to use hand and body lotions instead. I’m 68, past caring how good I look and as long as my skin feels moisturised I’m happy. It’s no good giving them away as presents, I’d forget who gave me what, I only buy presents for family anyway so that could well happen. Apart from giving some away to charity shops I really want to find uses for it all. I use the small bottles to take on holiday but that is only once a year. Has anyone any ideas?8

@missychrissy, I second the idea of donating unopened toiletry bottles to either a woman’s refuge or a food-bank. As @Rosa_Damascena said, it will make such a difference to someone’s life.
If the bottles have been opened, don’t donate them. They will just be binned. Instead, fill your soap dispensers with the body wash; it works well. (Also, any shampoo you don’t like will do the job, too.). You can also fill a soap dispenser with the hand cream/body lotion - a half-squirt will do your hands, once you’ve washed and dried them and counteract any soap induced dryness.
