Have only just found this thread and reading from the start, so this may have since been suggested, but freeze slices of lemon / lime flat, put in bag when frozen then add to water or G&T instead of icepollypenny said:I accidentally discovered ( because I wanted to look posh and there was some left)
that slices of lime and/or lemon can be left in a jug and the water just topped up.
It tastes lovely and may encourage kids to drink more water, rather than pop.MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

When I have used lemons or limes for baking ( zested and juiced) I cut up the rinds into ice cube size pieces and freeze. Great in jugs of water in the summer but do look a bit tatty so perhaps not for posh guests!5

Lol - the first time I had guests over for a summer party I stuck frozen blueberries in the orange juice instead of ice and poured it from an opaque jug. One of my guests pointed out that their glass had a black thing floating around in it, and looked at me in disbelief when I told her it was blueberry. She changed her mind when I showed her the jug, the whole blueberries had stayed in there whilst the juice (and frozen fruit debris) found its way into glasses.Happycas said:When I have used lemons or limes for baking ( zested and juiced) I cut up the rinds into ice cube size pieces and freeze. So much to read, so little time.7 -
Oh, I would have just smiled sweetly and said "Oh don't worry, it's probably just a dead bluebottle!"6

Properly sealing paint cans after using them so that you will have some paint for touching up or for another project years in the future. I do it by coating both the lip of the can and the lip of the lid liberally with paint before putting the lid back on.
Another way to keep paint fresh is to pour the paint into an old marmalade jar and screwing the lid on tight.

When you've finished a painting job, it,s often worth pouring a small amount of leftover paint into a cleaned small mustard jar or glass jar of similar size. These are often useful for those tiny "touch up" jobs where you only need w couple of brush strokes to cover a small but unslightly mark and it saves the hassle of having to open up a bigger tin.10

I do this too with several toiletries.DundeeDoll said:
New to this thread and working backwards so not sure if this has been mentioned - once i've 'finished' the toothpaste I cut the end off - what's left inside lasts another couple of weeks!Siebrie said:- I finish the toothpaste my dds don't like. I bought children's toothpaste, but it has a rather weird taste. I brush my teeth with this every morning, and use the expensive one I like in the evening.
Plus I take sharp scissors and carefully puncture, then cut round, things like shampoo & conditioner, after they've been stood upside down and nothing else is coming out.9 -
There's a "Lidl Dish Soap Trick" on youtube that works really well, I imagine if you also used a pump you'd hardly ever need to buy washing up liquid!!!tboo said:PipneyJane said:
I do that too, although I water mine 50:50 with vinegar - world's hardest water here - and put 3 squirts into the sink before running the hot tap.Eenymeeny said:I use a pump dispenser for washing up liquid and find that it lasts for ages. It's surprising how much less you use when you put it on to a dishwashing sponge rather than just squirting from the bottle into the water
- Pip+ 1 for using a pump for decanting washing up liquid into, it's so much easier and you definitely use so much less8 -
Perfect for your G&T, too. I zest all my lemons, juice them as needed and slice/cube the remains. They go into a tub in the freezer.Happycas said:When I have used lemons or limes for baking ( zested and juiced) I cut up the rinds into ice cube size pieces and freeze. Thanks all for these posts, they reminded me I've got 1 1/2 cut up limes in the fridge from a recipe that advised more lime than I thought it needed, they can go in the freezer nowPipneyJane said:
