Alas not much use in this weather!
I just grab the whole rail inside if it rains - much quicker than unpegging - and stand it in front of any radiator that is on.

I have a cheap free-standing clothes rail in garden - clothes on hangers straight from washing machine onto rail - straight in wardrobe when dry - no ironing!

Great idea if there is no chance of the clothes rail blowing over and the clothes getting all dirty.
You must have a very sheltered location.

I love drying outside, and on a good drying day, I'm running around looking for things to washt! Roll on spring/summer! :D
Not just me then, it's almost an obsession! This is what makes winter weekends so miserable - I'm always on the lookout for dry weather and am up early to wash and hang it, and back home before it gets dark. Not possible during weekdays :(

We had a lovely warm day last Thursday though, 14 degrees and my bedding was dry :)

Does anyone think there can be "too much too often" washing going on these days?

I mean compared to when I were a nipper anyway.

Changing bedding every week, washing clothes after one wear and so on?

Now that I've retired I realise that I did wash far too much and far too often.

I'm a bit more relaxed about it now, but am still very clean IYSWIM, and saving a fortune too.

I have a tankful of hot water all year round, so I often handwash stuff and just put them in the W/M to rinse and spin - takes about ten, fifteen minutes or so. Why waste the hot water? I have the time, I grant you, and I do NOT handwash towels or bedding, life is too short for that!. But you know, the tops, trousers, (special handwash for special undies) and small things like that. It's amazing how quickly you can wash them as they are generally only worn once.

I hang my washing out even when it is raining. This is possible because I have a rotaire dryline cover for my line.

not really a sheltered position - I just note the wind direction and position the rail sideways in to it - I generally put it in front of patio windows where it can get reflected sunlight and protection on one side
  • I too hang stuff on the airer in the garden on the patio but if it starts to rain I just bring the whole lot into the conservatory and leave it to finish off drying there (I have a radiator in there as well in the winter) its better than having wet washing hanging around the house.I do try to do the washing by the weather forecast as well No point washing strictly on Monday mornings :):):)

I've never seen one of those! :)
My mum had a lean-to on the back of her house and she could hang washing there all year round. It got a bit insane when it was freezing and the clothes looked like they had people inside them they were so stiff! :rotfl::rotfl:

Many recent posts have been about laundry...and I've just put a load in. It's only recently that I've started switching off my machines at the socket to stop them being on 'standby'. I'm sure I won't be the first to do this.

Our son gave us 'Slankets' for Christmas. Can't get his Dad to use his, despite the fact his heart condition means he's always cold (and I'm always dripping with perspiration as he keeps the living room very warm), but when he goes to visit our son for five weeks of natural warmth in Dubai, I shall certainly be Slanket-covered each evening with the gas fire resolutely OFF!
