I just called BT to discuss my options since I was thinking of switching to Primus for the £8.99 per month deal.
They offered me £8.54 per month (a £36 one off credit applied to account) including free calls during the evenings and weekends; this includes free calls to 0870/0845 numbers. This would be on a 12 month contract.
I took them up on their offer so I hope I have made the right decision! I also managed to get O2 to give me a discount for broadband so am now paying a total of £13.54 per month for my landline and unlimited broadband.

Hi
What number did you dial and which options did you select to get to right department for the offer.

I was offered £8.54 per month for a 12 month contract, including evening and weekend calls, when I spoke to BT this afternoon. I'd called them on 0800 800150 and chosen the option to cancel my service. It seemed like a Retentions Department.
I told them I was going to O2 and they immediately offered me £3.00 per month discount. I asked for time to consider, and they gave me a direct number, 0808 100 2425, to call back later.
I'd read another thread suggesting they'd offer me a phone + broadband deal, but they said the £3.00 discount was all they could offer. I'll be happy to sign up for another 12 months at this price.0 -
If your broadband contract is nearing its end and there are LLU option(s) available to you at your exchange, you should be able to negotiate a half price BT Total Broadband 12 month contract renewal.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

I called them to explain I was planning to move away from BT Total BB Option 3 to the O2 Home Broadband, and they advised they could not match what O2 were quoting me.
On the Home Phone side, I was not offered the discount detailed above when I called to advise I was moving to O2 (two days ago) - but I had stressed I would be paying £9.50 for the O2 Home Phone, and getting free calls from 6pm with that package, so I suspect they looked at my calling patterns and realised they couldn't match that either.0 -

Good deal and unlike some other suppliers you can definitely use indirect access numbers (18185/1899/etc) on BT to place cheaper calls .0

As you have been given the discount as a one-off £36 credit, does that mean your prices revert to normal once your 12 month contract expires? I would have hoped your new price of £8.54/month would continue after your contract period runs out?0 -

Well I have finally got around to trying to save myself a few quid. I currently have line rental via BT with free evening/weekend calls with Primus. I use an orchid dialler to route mobile and daytime calls via 1899 and quite honestly fed up receiving 3 different bills that I have trouble keeping up with.
I rang BT on 0808 100 2425 and they put me through to retentions when I said I was moving line rental to Primus.
Anyway the upshot is that I am now on their Anytime plan with call waiting, call divert, anon call reject, caller id and the reduced price mobile calls for 18.72 per month with first 3 months of anytime free.
They have given me the £36 credit for line rental up front along with £18 credit for the mobiles bolt on so I'm pretty pleased as I can now get rid of my orchid dialler as well. :T0 -
Wow, this thread is great. I hagged a discount with BT today! :T
Previously on BT Unlimited Weekend Plan at £12.79/month and Total Broandband Option 3 at £22.99/month.
O2 offered me landline&broadband for £17 so I e-mailed BT to tell them I might take them up on the offer.
BT have now changed me to Unlimited Evening and Weekend Plan for £8.54/month and discounted my broadband to £15.49/month (both for 12 months)... I keep the quarterly paperess billing discount, so now paying £22.78 rather than £34.53(and I get to keep BT Vision!)
