Just an update from me (by way of a change from being the resident nut :)) :

I am still seeing the Dual Diagnostic Team once or twice a week.

First I have 45 minutes of very relaxing Auricular Acupuncture (5 needles in each ear) then a quick CBT session (and a slap round the face with a wet kipper if I've been naughty :rotfl:......... Though its not as good as Mollypollys whip ;):D)
Sometimes I have the acupuncture twice a week. I really notice the difference if I miss a session ....drink more, sleep less., more tense etc.

I have gradually reduced my intake over the last 4 or 5 weeks from about 11 units every night to 4.5 units weekdays for this week. I'm not really going to attempt much cutting down at weekends until weekdays are under control. Having said that weekends have sort of cut themselves automatically strangely down to about 8 units without trying .... that just happened.

I really confused the counsellor this week by having beer and cider all different strengths and from different supermarkets ....I thought she was going to go and get a calculator at one stage :rotfl:

My depression and anxiety have reduced quite a bit though still have 'wobbly' days (followed by extra beer:o). In general I feel much better physically and mentally.

I am a bit worried about the school holidays as its six weeks of 'holiday mood' and no structure or routine. however my counseller said not to try and reduce any more over that period but just keep a 'maintenance' level until school starts back in September. Its not too bad I guess as I'm nearly down to the max daily intake of 3-4 units, so am happy to do that.

I'm still not sure whether I want to or am able to give up completely, but will see how I go and just try and do what I'm told for a change :o (By the counsellor, not Mrs BHB of course :rotfl:, though if she has a pitch fork in her hands I'm not gonna argue:eek:)

Anyway that's this weeks very exiting instalment of the life and times of a misfit hillbilly ;):D

30 deg here already ..... back to the pool :D

    Morning folks.

my oh my what a tumultuous 48 hours here on this thread. I post on several internet forums and this sort of thing is commonplace there, I haven't seen it here though, until just recently.

It's important to remember that behind the monitor there is a real person with an entirelt separate life to the one written on screen, this applies to both parties when there are differences of opinion, arguments or out and out abuse. It isn't pleasant but the nature of an internet forum is such that the anonimity afforded by an online persona can give rise to uncharacteristic behaviour or attitudes towards others because ultimately, his or her actions are largely inconsequential to them, with the worst case scenario being that they are banned from this or that forum.

Of course, on this thread in particular, which is clearly a thread geared towards a specific issue affecting all of its contributors, a supportive stance is almost a pre-requisite for all who take part and as such, any deviation from such an attitude can cause offence and can be quite shocking when mostly we are used to being kind and encouraging to one another.

I suspect that TP1 may have had a bad couple of days and upon perhaps not receiving the support badly needed, be it online or in person, her reaction was to feel alienated and/or rejected. This is understandable and I for one am sorry if anyone at all feels at times that the support they are used to receiving from here is sometimes lacking, but at the same time, as Marru's quotes so brilliantly illustrated, the way one deals with such feelings is the measure of what can be done to resolve the underlying issues. A violent or abusive attack on anyone is obviously the last thing one should do in order to receive support but it also illustrates the seriousness of the issue.

I'm no psychologist, and even if I was, I'm not sure it is possible to adequately analyse or diagnose someone based on their online persona's behaviour alone, but TP's outburst seemed more of a call for attention more than anything else. sure, it appeared to be directed at some particular people and was vitriolic and unpleasant, but the anonymous and lack fo real present danger is something too easily forgotten. It's easier to take things personally as if it were someone speaking to you fqace to face, but it isn't, it's words on a screen.

Anyone can start a war on a computer(just ask Matthew Broderick) but in real life, most people are decent and wouldn't deliberately set out to hurt or offend a fellow human being.

I hope everyone can move on from this episode and that any underlying issues, whether they were broadcast on here during the debacle or not, are resolved swiftly and painlessly for all concerned.

    Morning All.

Just popping in to report 4 AF days this week. I have hauled out the pool from the shed and it is busy filling up at the moment. This weekend is going to be totally stess free- just getting some rays on my white bod, BBQ's and the footie- although, being SA, I must admit watching the games makes me very homesick. I have not been home for eight years due to debt problems, ect. I phoned my sister last night and she says the atmosphere in South Africa is electric. I cant wait to take my little girl over there for a holiday- this goal will hopefully keep me focused and on the wagon.

Sim, good luck with the cabbie job. Have you ever considered being a driving instructor? Might be something to look into and I should imagine it can be quite rewarding.

Paolo , there have been many tiffs along the way luckily with few casualties. We all love a good debate on here, just unfortunately sometimes things can be misconstrued and all hell breaks loose!

    Well done Kevin.

Enjoy the pool BHB, I'd rather be at work anyway....

Wow, looks like I missed some excitement on here.

I wasn't AF last night and I'm feeling a bit hungover today. Not as bad as last week but not bouncy and energetic.

Day 3 of my 50 day challenge and I will be doing at least 20 minutes of my exercise DVD tonight, plus warm up and cool down will be half an hour.
