Maman - don't put yourself down, sounds like you are doing brilliantly to me. Surely moderation is everyones dream on here...well done you on doing it!:T

Well done from me too Maman.

Moderation is a dream that can never be realised for me. I crossed that line long ago. All or nothing. So it has to be nothing.:)

If you can moderate and drink within the government recommended guidelines, then good luck and enjoy it. However, I would struggle to be honest with myself about how much I was drinking.
I used to think moderation was 4 pints a day!!

I could never be happy moderating. I never felt I had had enough and never wanted to put the cork back in the bottle.

Hi Loulou and welcome to the thread.
Lots of people on here in your situation and we are all trying to either give up or cut down alcohol.
Have a read through this thread and keep posting and reading and you will soon make some lovely friends who will try to help you all they can.
As you are only 26 it is good that you realise that you have a problem now before it goes any further.

Good luck on your journey with us ....we will be here to hold your hand all the way.

    Take care of YOU
    Love Mollypollyxxxx

Hi loulou and welcome to the thread. Hopefully being here will help in some way :)

I'm no doctor, so don't take what I say as gospel, but if you are drinking that amount regularly I don't think its wise to go cold turkey. Have you considered talking to your doctor about it?

hi everyone hope its ok fokr me to join. i'm lou and i think i am losing a battle with the drink. a bit about me - i suffer with post natal depression. unfornately depression has been around for long time. had it on and off over the years. maiking myself sound old now but i'm only 26. between the alcohol and depression and other things i do to cope, it has cost me my husband and son. i have no faith in my gp at all. i have a cpn who i've seen once anf really do not like.

i grew up in an alcoholic family and swore to myself i wouldnt end up like that but i'm headed that way :(

Alcoholism and depression is a miserable and often deadly combination. The two seem to be closely linked. Often they get worse if untreated
None of us are doctors, so you need to seek professional help. Different GPs and CPNs for starters.
There is no magic cure for alcoholism; no pill will take it away. The desire to stop drinking has to be strong and come from within.

Alcoholism stays in families for generations. They call it a family illness, but have yet to figure out if it's nature or nurture.
It doesn't really matter. All that matters is that one stops drinking.
When I stopped drinking, then things started happening which were good. Until then, everything seemed to be getting worse.

Good luck and please take care.
  • Welcome Loulou.

Lots of us have been where you are now.
As MissP says your GP should be your first call.

    Good luck.
