This powerless thing - I'm a real control freak, I don't even like getting drunk because I'm not in control of the daft things I do when drunk
So I struggle very much with the powerless concept.
I know that I don't want to drink tonight but I went to the fridge and I've missed another AF day. I have the sort of will power that most people would love and the sort of positive attitude that allows me to do whatever I try my hand at. Nothing in my world is impossible.
But I still go back to the fridge and fill my glass ... the majority of the time even when I'm telling myself I'm not drinking tonight. I don't like not being able to control it. I don't even like the taste of of it. I certainly can't stand the feeling about 15 minutes afterwards let alone the following day.
Sorry for the deep post.
Hope everyone is ok today, Pen xThis time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
Fingers crossed x0 -

I know I have a lot of will power in many areas of my life. However, when it came to alcohol, all bets were off. That's why I am powerless over alcohol. It doesn't fit with my controlled and disciplined life. It was the crazy part of me that I couldn't control or understand. And it got me into all kinds of trouble.
Classic alcoholism in me - I would swear I wouldn't drink on a given day, and later on I would have a drink in my hand.
I found it impossible to stop drinking without help - I could not do it by myself.
If I accept I am powerless, then I am at least being humble and honest enough to know that I can get help with my alcoholism.
If I fight it and don't accept, I keep thinking I can drink normally, and control it (which is bonkers if you look at my track record!!)
My alcoholism is an illness that tells me I haven't got it. It tells me one drink is ok. It tells me that this time it will be different. It tells me that tomorrow I can give up. It tells me that life is no fun without it. It tells me to isolate, and harbour secrets and shame about my drinking.
This is why I need to do something everyday about it. Not much, sometimes only a few minutes a day. But it is necessary if I want to go through life NOT wanting a drink, which I have today.0 -
