    Morning !

Was AF yesterday, went for a bbq in the park near my house with my sister and some friends. They were all drinking but I resisted the temptation to follow suit. I'm pretty skint at the moment so that made it a bit easier. oh well, it's payday tomorrow and the weather forecast seems pretty decent so hopefully it'll be sunny for Sunday's bike ride.

I am so looking forward to it now, not only because it will be with new found friend, but also because it'll be fun to wake up on a sunday with a purpose rather than a hangover.

I watched an excellent film called Garden State last night, it has Zach Braff, the guy from Scrubs, in it. It's a dark comedy about a guy who goes back to the town he grew up in to attend his mother's funeral. It's really good and it reminded me a lot of when my mother died, the numbness I felt was agonising. I remember the week that followed her death as clearly as if it happened yesterday, and oddly, the thing I remember it for is the fact that nothing happened for a week, I just sat with my dad and sister in silence for the whole week, occasionally getting up to make some lunch or dinner, taking the dog out for walks. It was a very strange time, I almost felt comfortable with what had happened even though it was so sad, it was a huge weight off all of our shoulders because despite her battle with cancer being a relatively brief 6 months, it was heartbreaking to see it take over her life and eventually end it.

The film touches on that feeling of numbness and how whilst grieving, the human body almost feels euphoric, like it has something to celebrate even in a time of such tragedy. To some extent I can relate to that notion because death, whose ever it is, is a confirmation of what life is all about and while it happens every day to people all over the world, it's only when it's someone very close to you passes on that you realise how precious your own life is and how much you've lived already, and what you have left to live for.

Just goes to show that issues like money, addictions, even love or its absence, they all pale into insignificance when confronted with the bigger picture. those are transient components of life, important ones of course but they are things that can to some extent be controlled with a little effort which translates into a large contribution towards enjoying life as a whole, rather than enjoying only a few of its parts.

eeek, I've gone all Alain De Botton, sorry.

    carry on.

Hope everyone's fine by the way!

I had a couple of beers last night, am not too worried about that (even though I was thinking a week or so ago that I wanted to try to cut alcahol altogether)...am doing loads of sorting out at home at the moment, ready for the move, last night I sorted 2 big bags for charity with clothes/toys another couple for the tip...then I sorted out my paperwork into folders and while I was doing that at about 8pm I felt like a beer, dh did too while he watched the footy so he went out and bought us 4 bottles of san miguel (always reminds me of holidays) I have decided to avoid wine as once a bottle is open it will always be finished, whereas I can easily have a beer or 2 without wanting more for some reason (need the scratchy head smiley that went awol)....

Miss P  to your Nacho dilemma, I am sure you will be back to normal in no time though...good luck to your Mum and Nan today at the hospital.. x

Will catch up properly later, boss has just walked in

I liked this bit - "Insp Steve Grace from Sussex Police said:...We've suggested that he might like to put his sensible head on before mixing drinking and cycling in the future"

Funnily enough I'm out tonight and then cycling home. Was thinking about having a drink but perhaps will put my sensible head on instead (if I can find it). Thanks RA! I think the drink-drive limit for drivers should be absolutely nil, perhaps the same for cyclists would be a good idea.

  • Have any of you ever used alcohol as a form of self-abuse and have you ever made yourself sick while drinking?

Not ever deliberately made myself sick, don't know about self abuse as such, though tend to get that thing that once i satrt i keep drinking like a dieter not stopping at one biscuit, they're not happy they succumbed so get angry and finish the whole packet! its a bit like that..

    Afternoon all

Going to try and make his brief as you will all have a feeling of deja vu, having heard some of this from me before!:o

The last few days, especially with feeling ill, I have been arguing with myself about alcohol. Whilst my illness Monday wasn't caused by alcohol, I know it so very easily COULD have been. Whilst saying I'm drinking moderately, I know my drinking levels are creeping up again.

I had a long chat, via text, with my best friend this morning. First time I've mentioned my fears about my drinking to anyone close other than OH. She asked me some very pertinent questions and really made me think.

So.....I've decided thats it once and for all. Alcohol does not agree with me...I do not agree with alcohol....and I think MY life is better off without it.

I know you're all thinking blah de bloody blah...heard it all before:rotfl:. Just wanted to get it down in black and white :o.

I've used it as box to hide in where nothing can touch me but it's a lonely place and emerging from the box is almost always harder than confronting the things it aims to hide you from.
