Which resort would you recommend with the following in mind
-we want a nice Portugese resort-pref with an old town area
-we want to avoid any big groups of drunken brits (or any nationality for that matter!)
-not too many bars that show Sky or do full english breakfasts!
-no noisy clubs
so a traditional portugese resort really. Are there any?
thank you:T

Hi there
We are off to portugal as well this summer, but we are going to albuferia, probs not good for you as has everything on the list that you dont want.
My brother goes alot and he likes villamora and lagos but not sure if they are what you want.
Hopefully someone will be along that can help you.
Have a good time where ever you decide to go.0 -
cant see a problem with albuferia,as the old town and the "strip" are some distance apart,i believe quite alot of investment has gone into the old town in recent years.
there are also some excellent complexes half way between the 20 -
Hi, I'd highly recommend Alvor, really nice old town, fantastic waterfront restaurants, especially if you enjoy fish and a lovely walk at night watching the portugese men fishing at the edge of the sea x0

My boss in work adores albuferia, so was going to suggest that, but I do think it is quite touristy but not in a bad drunken louty way.0

Albufeira is VERY touristy - known to ex-pats as Blackpool!!
Would second Alvor, nice quiet little town. Lagos is also nice, bigger than Alvor but still fairly quiet and lots of nice beaches

All the suggestions so far have been on the Algarve although the OP didn't specify this area.
Cascais and Estoril on the Lisbon coast are traditional Portuguese resorts which may fit the bill.0 -

The resorts further up the coast from Lisbon are also lovely and a million miles away from the commericalism of the Algarve.0 -

You're absolutely correct.
I automatically (wrongly) thought of the Algarve as that is where I lived

Madeira is exactly what you're looking for.0

We've been to Alvor twice now, really nice place for families, no rowdy behaviour or single sex groups. Nice old town, lovely restaurants - can't wait to go back this year!0
