13k quote for five sash windows from Anglian

Anglian came by with an advert saying they were offering discounts for using houses in advertising photos so I invited them round to quote for the whole house.
Ended up with a quote for just the front five windows, as it was so expensive.
All box sashes, three four-pane sashes, one two-pane sash and a ten pane bay.

The price included 1.3k extra for soundproofing which I want.
The full price was said to be over 20k but there was a discount for agreeing to the advert and some other kind of discount applied.
The sales person said sashes are a lot more expensive than casement, but I wonder, should they be this much?

Have a read of those two threads... will give you an idea of how expensive national firms are.

Would you really go with a company because they have a "special 50% off, just for you sir, never before... my manager must be mad" discount?

Well worth a few more quotes, get out the yellow pages/ask friends and neighbours if they can recommend anyone.

if they say 13k, then you can probably half that if you shop around.

    Cheers.
So, if I get local guys in to quote, they won't spend two hours here?

In general, I have a dilemma as the original hardwood Edwardian sashes are still in decent condition - it's just that the road outside has become busier and I'm a light sleeper who feels the cold.
Maybe I should get new joiner-made wooden dg sashes for the two front bedrooms and just put dg panels to replace the float glass into the other existing panes.
It is a tough call between practicality and preserving the character and aesthetics.
  • You are doing just the right thing by thinking twice.

Secondary double glazing will retain all the beauty and historic fabric but will be much warmer and quieter. If used with thick curtains as well......bliss:j
The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.
  • Far too expensive - 100% right about National Firms.

My family are in the business and if you're in the North West area just pm me with the measurements and I'll let you know the cost of the frames.

That way you can see how much they'll be adding in terms of labour...

100% agree that the quote is way too high - 6k is more realistic, but of course can't comment accurately as every job is different.
