Ideas for red and white wine vinegar?

I'm planning on trying a new recipe tonight that requires red wine vinegar. I don't even know what this is, let alone have any!
Is there something that can be used as a substitute for it and will give the same results, or will I need to pop to Tesco at lunchtime?
Thanks!

Have you any red wine?
I would just use a little lemon juice but then I tend to be slapdash and my dishes are hit or miss."This site is addictive!"

Red Wine Vinegar, saw the title and thought very upmarket cleaning going on here!!0

I'm sure you can get it from the supermarkets, it will be with the cooking oil/Olive oil/vinegars.0

It's not too expensive if you buy Tescos own brand and you won't be stick with it because mixed 1 part vinegar and 3 parts olive oil makes a perfect salad dressing. My Doctor told me that "1 out of 3 people who start smoking will eventually die." The other two apparently became immortal.

Thank you everyone. I'm going to pop out and see if I can find some now (very late lunchbreak!).
It's good to know that there are other things you can do with it, as I was a bit worried it'd end up being one of those bottles that lives forever at the back of the cupboard!
I will be doing Elona's idea if I can't find any at Mr T's, so thank you for the alternative.hardpressed wrote:Red Wine Vinegar, saw the title and thought very upmarket cleaning going on here!!

It should do the job but seems an awful waste as it is much dearer."This site is addictive!"

As Elona says white wine vinegar is much more expensive than white vinegar.I use it in salad dressings.I'm sure it will work as a cleaner,as will malt vinegar.0

That's what I thought, but I don't really have enough money to go and buy any more. I've got 2 litres of the stuff!! And I think what I'll do is use it on salads too! So quite a few uses out of it! lol!! Trust grandad!!! Awww xxOfficial DFW Nerd no. 082! :cool:Debt @ 01/01/2014 £16,956 Debt now: £0.00 :j

I bet he was thinking, 'This stuff she reckons is cheaper than 'cleaning stuff' is a bit pricey.' LOLMay all your dots fall silently to the ground.0
