CSH - Yes...well undiagnosed but strongly suspected by his teachers(and me)...along with his dyslexia!!

Just wondered, I've been doing alot of research on dyspraxia at the mo while I wait for our app with the Educational Psych on the 16th June. Eating can be a big problem for some sufferers, DD is terrible with food, picks at things won't try new foods and incredibly fussy. She can't use cutlery either and mainly eats with her hands :o
Its amazing when you start to look into it just how much I thought was just her quirks and personality could actually be the dyspraxic tendancies showing.
Anyhoo, rambling point being, all the shouting in the world and forcing her to eat won't change the way her brain is wired so I just let it go now

Sounds exactly like ds2...Nearly every symptom of Dyspraxia I can attribute to ds2, along with the difficulties talking and regulating breathing, which I must admit really shocked me!

I have looked into it a fair bit, I am unsure whether to push for formal statement of his condition or not? His Dyslexia is mainly affecting his writing now, he has caught up fantastically on his reading and barely makes any mistakes when reading, but his writing/spelling/letter formation is terrible.

What will be the outcome of the ed psych, if they agree that dd has dyspraxia? Was it you or the school that pushed for her to be seen by one? Sorry if too personal, I am just pondering on the options myself....

Why do most mealtimes turn into world war 3!!!! I am so sick of it, it has been going on for years now ds2 just refuses to eat anything more than a bite or two of food and then dh starts yelling and I start yelling at dh, then ds1 gets involved and ends up getting yelled at......GRRRRRRR

I am sure I have read somewhere about letting kids eat until they are full, not forcing them to keep eating until they have eaten every scrap on the plate.....Although if ds2 is barely eating then surely we need to be strict and make him eat, he is a right bony skeleton child as it is!!! I really am getting to the end of my patience with it all!
:grouphug: It must be very frustrating.

Do you think he is actually not eating enough or is he just naturally thin? People used to joke with my mum that she'd have to start feeding us because we were all so thin and we were all eating loads. What is his eating like at other times i.e. other meals and between meals? Is it particular foods that he doesn't eat or is it just all the time? Can you get him to come and help you when you are serving out the meals so he can choose his portion size? Do you think it is actually about the food or could it be a control thing? Is he old enough/reasonable enough that you could discuss it with him at some other time and see if he has any ideas of a way forward? (Just wondering whether involving him at that level might help.)

You don't have to answer those questions obviously - I just hope some of it might be useful.

Thanks Susan...both boys are naturally tall and thin really, but they can not afford to lose any weight! I do like the idea of him picking his own serving size while I am dishing out, that could be manageable.

He just looks at food and decides he doesn't like it, very picky! he barely ever asks for food throughout the day....if I didn't make lunch and shout him in/down for it he wouldn't ask for any, he just isn't bothered about eating. I even have to offer him snacks throughout the day because he doesn't ask for any.

You know my pre-pregnancy bra size :rotfl:

I'd just bought a load of new undies when I found out I was pregnant, and within two weeks I'd grown out of ALL my new ones, then I grew out of the ones I bought to replace them, and after that I wore supportive vests till they calmed down and I bought some actual bras.

Mel, baby led weaning talks about letting kids decide when they are full and not forcing them to clear their plate etc. Obviously your DS isn't a baby but I guess the principles apply to all ages.

Ahh every time I think I'm done I remember something else I need to do. I promised my mum I'd make her a baileys cheesecake for tomorrow night and my sister I'd make some vegan cupcakes for a stall she's doing tomorrow with this animal group thing she goes to. Meh. Haven't done either but really need to. I suppose I could reward myself with a baileys while I do them
