fitz, just that i see ctf as a bit pointless and i'd rather have that money as tax credits or something (which i guess is selfish b'c it's taking away "his" money) - or like sami said, reinvested into something more beneficial. Right now we can't afford to give him money but down the road, i'd money into an isa or something better than their savings acct. Sorry i didn't explain myself well. :o

Eta: and selfish b'c i'm not thinking of those kids who will turn 18 without a penny to their name...but cynically, 250 or 500 doesn't buy u much in today's world anyway :(

Ooh, where in Cornwall are you off to, Bruno? We love the West Country.

My gorgeous Boden dress has arrived, but even that has not been enough to lift my melancholy today. I really need to snap out of it but I just feel so down :(.

  • Oh Bruno! I shouldn't laugh but sounds hilarious! What comedy timing your son has.

I had to read aless's statement twice too. I agree, for my circumstances I don't care whether there is a ctf or not...I wonder how it all came about if I am honest.

Benjamin keeps trying to kiss the pic of percy the engine on his t-shirt! Very cute in a dog chasing his tail kinda way!

:rotfl: at Sami's challenge! I don't immediately know Sami... it depends on your setup, your laptop make and OS and all sorts probably...

We're going to Kingsand... picked really totally at random, coastal B&B with good reviews http://www.westcroftguesthouse.co.uk/

But as it's a long drive from London with a tempestuous toddler, we are stopping off on the way for two nights, at http://www.greenwoodgrange.co.uk/

Very much looking forward to it but I fear rain!

ah ha I've fixed it! hit ctrl, alt and 'up' at the same time and it inverts your screen!

MFD IIRC labour brought in the CTF supposedly to help encourage kids to got to uni or something equally annoying IMO. It really grates on me how gov's are obsessed with sending everyone to uni, IMO too many people who shouldn't go do and then drop out, I don't want our tax going to pay for someone to go to uni for 6months then drop out :p

Thanks for clarifying this! It read as if the Tories are cutting it in a totally selfish way (e.g. they are being selfish)! That makes sense now. :D

Our calculations for me returning to work take into account tax credits, but I don't necessarily believe that we have a right to them if the money could be better used elsewhere. It's my choice to have a child and unless I am on the breadline, I could make cuts in some way. I think with my part time salary, we will be borderline £50k so may or may not get something.

Child Trust Fund - again, I agree that the money could be used better elsewhere. It was set up to help those children who are in need and whose parents don't normally help them with savings. But the uptake is mainly from those who would save money for their kids anyway. There are still a lot of poorer families who don't bother with it because it's not money in their hand right now, which defeats the purpose! It's nice to get something for nothing and for everyone to get it for a change rather than being means tested, but I would rather the money was spent elsewhere if it came down to it.

It's the same with the HIP Grant. It was a lovely bonus, but I don't really NEED it.
