GISI - Oh no that ur feeling rubbish, hope u feel better soon. xxBaby Toby born 17th Nov 09 :j0

yep
the average person who cooks for their family knows 9 recipes and 3 of them are usually not something you'd eat as an evening meal (like they can make a birthday cake, but you can't really have it for dinner!)
sorry if my earlier post in response to CSH's questions sounded gruff or defensive, I'm tired, and perhaps came across a bit brisk.
Kezzie screams a lot at the mo
:oToo embarrassed to put my limited knowledge of cooking on here - and I have never baked a cake or pudding in my life:eek: unless you count chopping up a banana with a carton of ambrosia custard on lol
What you have acheived whilst looking after 2 babies Weezl is something to be proud of as I said before this has really impressed me x19.6.10 Weight loss 6lb0 -
I'm a really scaredy cook - I absolutely hate cooking from scratch for fear of poisoning someone or burning myself and/or the kitchen down - but, can I just say.. I pan fried those plaice fillets tonight and Rhys wolfed them down
He had three (so 3/4 of a whole fish!) in cheese sauce with mash.. and no ill effects spotted yet either
It's really silly but I'm proud of myself

Very few of the dishes I cook take more than 20 mins. I simply don't have time with the hours I work (never mind the babba) and I only use jars for curry (except 1 version which I cook from scratch).
My mother is not the best cook and I guess I rebelled from that and I really enjoy cooking. I did a spell as a commis chef whilst I was at university.please listen to MFD - she is a wise womanProud Mummy to the gorgeous Benjamin John born 14 March 2009, 8lbs 14ozA new little seedling on the way, due 30 September 20120 -
Thanks FBB. I'm being a drama queen- it's only a cold!
I should have also said, jha, that I find the ring sling really useful for popping him in so I can get little bits and pieces done when he is whinging.
On the menu front I think I am quite accomplished! OH may not agree though as our food tastes are very different. If I put my mind to it I reckon I could do a different dinner every night for a month without looking at a recipe book, but that wouldn't be very frugal as we generally eat leftovers quite often! I think in a way not eating meat makes me think harder about meal planning as there's not meat and two veg fall back (except veggie bangers and mash which admittedly we do have most weeks).:DYummy mummy, runner, baker and procrastinator0 -
My_Fathers_Daughter wrote: »Mel - ((HUGS)) hun - why don't you try asking for a little help from someone every week? Then maybe every 5 days? And work down. I understand that it is difficult but you are going to burn yourself out. Doesn't need to be anything big, just get a little assistance.
Do you have any reason to worry about what hubby is up to on the net?
JHA - I still only really do housework when hubby is here. Stuff it is what I say :rotfl::rotfl:
I can't ask! I do accept (sometimes) if help is offered, which is so few and far between, I can't even remember the last time anyone offered to do anything for me, except dh's offers of cups of tea:rotfl:
As for dh on the pc...I have no real reason to worry, just paranoia, it is driving me insane. I am not usually like this, well except every time I am pregnant, but this time is definitely the worst, I can barely bring myself to leave the room anymore and I am constantly going through his phone and pockets and bedside drawers:o The main thing he does on the pc is playing some silly online space game that he is addicted to:cool:
I also struggled to get much housework done when babies were little, but then I hate housework anyway so will usually find an excuse to put off doing it:pUnless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,
Nothing is going to get better. It's not.0 -
jha, sorry I have more time now to respond properly:
Like GISI, I do combos of things to entertain him, but in the past 2 weeks he's really ramped up the need for attention/interactive playtime. He has a playmat (with dangling animals hanging over him and a mirror to look in) that occupies most of his time. If he gets sick of that, we can do the bouncy chair. I also just got a door bouncer, but they're only supposed to be in those 20 min max. He's starting to get a bit big for his playgym (and it's entertaining him less and less), so I'm looking into a Learn & Groove or similar. Anyway, I do most housework either when he's napping or doing one of those things. I'll shower with the door open and leave him on his playmat (though will have to stop that soon now that he's rolling lots). Sometimes if he starts to get a bit stroppy from where he is (mat, chair, whatever), I'll sing silly songs really loudly from wherever I am (usually the kitchen) and that can help buy an extra few minutes to finish up whatever I'm doing. HTH.
Hope you feel better, GISI.
I think I have a pretty good repetoire of meals (even pre-weezl!), but my fallbacks change quite often...like stuff I used to make all the time a year ago, I don't really do anymore and have a new set of things I make often...I think it kinda rotates naturally like that. Won't list them here as it would take up too much room and look like boasting

Where does the time go? :think:0 -
I used to cook quite a bit when ex was here but then he started moaning that there wasn't much variety (he had a point, it was lots of mince dishes or pasta).
Since i had Amber i'm soooooooooooooooo lazy with cooking. Tonight we had minted lamb grillsteaks with some frozen potato cube things from Tesco (was bored of chips LOL) and beans. When Amber was a few weeks old i think we had bacon sandwiches and chips for about 3 days running. :rotfl:
Sometimes i make sweet & sour chicken with rice, or chicken korma. DS favourite meal is roast dinner but i haven't done one of them for a couple of monthsWe love mince & dumplings, spag bol, sausage and mash... generally boring british type of foods. DS would have a right face on if i put onion tart or hummous in front of him. In fact i think he'd laugh and then cry LOL.
JHA, you wouldn't think i did any housework if you saw the state of my housebut i do a bit honest!! Anyway waiting for Amber to have a day nap so i could get stuff done just never happened... So i utilise things like her bouncy chair, the Learn & Groove and her play gym.
I have a baby carrier and i honestly wouldn't be able to do more than make a cup of tea with her in it cos it's too much hassle/effort so if she's not happy to sit or lie somewhere then it just doesn't get done.
FBB which prams are you eyeing up at the mo?0 -
hi everyone,
i see hugs are needed, so passing some of mine onto all that need. can i have some back??
things are pants in my work life at the minute, to the point that i have started to write my CV. thinking of a complete change as i cant really do what do elsewhere, so looking at what's around. i know GISI volunteers with the Princes Trust. i think i'd like to work somewhere like that, but can't afford not to work.
haven't written a CV in ages and my old one is on our old laptop that died, so starting from scratch.
now, i need to find weezl's site somehow ...0
