Airlines say that they are going to have extra bottled water on board, plus will have to carry extra stuff for kids. Even on short haul. If they keep the kids happy and quiet- the adults should be better behaved.

Yeah, but the cheap charter airlines will still cash in on it.

Onboard an LTE charter flight to Tenerife, €2 for a 200ml bottle of water.

To put this into perspective, in Tenerife, 8L bottle of water, €2.

I think it is this rip-off element that people will object to. We can all guess what the actual wholesale price of a bottle of water would be, and the airlines and airports have a "captive audience". So why should they charge so much for what is really a necessity and not a luxury .

    Just flown back from Palma.

Passengers on UK flights were not allowed hand luggage. Duty frees could be bought after security and taken on plane.
    BUT
Drinks (bottles of water/pop) were asked to be handed in by the cabin staff on board after they spotted some passengers with them. The staff at boarding were taking them off some people but not everyone (those argueing were allowed to pass through with them to the dismay of the cabin crew).

There is no consistancy anywhere. Flights to countries other than the UK were allowed hand luggage as normal.
Funnily the cabin crew were going through the usual routine of telling you to turn off mobile phones and not to use electronic devices during take off

The airlines are doing well out of this. I have never seen so many headsets and drinks sold on a shorthaul flight. They even had magazines to sell.

    ROFL those headsets, yeah.

On the same flight I mentioned above, people were buying them, I discovered that they had piped the film's audio onto the channels that were meant to just contain bad music normal 3.5mm stereo socket on the arm rest so I could use the earphones from my mp3 player instead of buying a €4 pair that were worse :)

    :T

Obviously that doesnt apply now though as you couldn't take your own earphones on :(

I consulted the pharmacist in Boots at Heathrow before our flight to Australia, and she recommended Phenergan.
I cannot believe people who are saying that use calpol/phenergan could be seen as child abuse! I'd say that not using it would more likely lead to abuse...! (joking by the way!) Obviously I didn't use it for the entire flight.
It's totally down to the parent/guardian. And in my case, the pharmacist actually suggested it, I had never heard of it before then.
I'd like to see these people on a 26 hour journey with a 2 year old......
The airlines are usually pretty good with kids anyway, and don't mind them walking up and down the aisles, as long as they do not disturb everyone else.

sorry, forgot to click the 'reply' button, i know the subject has slightly changed since!
:D I am in the future you know...

I don't think giving a dose of calpol could be considered child abuse! However, I am not sure what it would achieve. It is only paracetemol, not knock out drops!!! ;) Perhaps something with anti-histamine (phenergan or medised) may be more useful??? I have always been lucky with the kids on flights, fingers crossed for this time!
