How to keep the kids happy on flights - now almost everything is banned.

It's the rubbish package holiday flights that are so boring. We have just come back from Dubai on the 9th thank goodness. With Virgin. Fantastic flight no need to take anything for the flight completely entertained, the duel masters in the kids back pack was great along with the 50 movies and all the other channels to watch.
We went on a first choice package holiday last month, rubbish cramped flight overhead TV something like 4 for the whole plane. No free drinks opted out of food as additional £12 each. The whole flight they are trying to flog something or other.
Now these flights you do need to take your drink and food and entertainment with you!0 -

We flew with them in April, but we had seat back TV's with your choice of films, TV progs, music and interactive games. My boys liked the games, as you could play battleships, chess etc with other passengers! Meals, snacks and soft/hot drinks with meals were included in our ticket, but we had to pay for the bar drinks. It was quite spacious too, compared with other charter flights. Here I go again on my own....0 -
I am going to be deeply unpopular for this

But to those suggesting singing songs and other verbal games, it might be worth bearing in mind that people are most likely to be quite stressed flying at the moment and chanting children might provoke a bit of annoyance ... which could turn nasty.
I'm suresome will suggest that passengers should be more tolerant of children - but we are all going to have to be more tolerant with everyone. And also more considerate.
Incidentally, I have never understood why airlines don't provide a specific area for children, for them to sit together and be entertained in some way. They could provide a number of activities to keep kids amused and all the cabin crew are trained to look after children. Many children would far rather be in a "play" area (albeit in seats) with other kids, knowing mum & dad are not too far away.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac

I too am glad that nothing terrible happen yesterday and hope it never will.
But in a few months we will be flying down under with 2 small boys, we are flying Emirates and glad so see that they supply kits for kids- nothing on website about this. But will supply of stuff last as I`m sure there will be more demand now.
We will have 25 hours of international flying plus an internal flight down under, can`t see how long I spy will last!! But better to be bored than dead.
Phenergan exlir suitable for children under 5 is in a liquid form so not sure if you can take in on board- unless you get it from Dr`s ?
I think as long as you are now flying to US you can buy what you want past secruity- so will have to play top wack for travel games-coluring books etc- but angain worth the extra cost- will start an exra pot now.
Debt-free-chick I think Gulf air have the kids section you talk about- but think its just for bussnes class, they have Sky nannies, but there is no way we could afford to fly anything other than cattle. Maybe it will come in time.April Grocery challange £175
Spent week 1 £29.90
week 2 £62.64, TOTAL £92.540 -

No child will be perfectly silent for a whole flight.
Which is the better disturbance? 2 children singing songs and laughing, or 2 bored children fighting each other and screaming, coupled with a parent telling them off!

Either of those, if there were only two children on a flight

I haven't seen anything that says all the shops are closed in Airports once airside (unless of course I've missed it!)
Close the shops !!!! This is how the BAA make most of the money. They'll never do that, bomb threats or not !!!
Additional passenger searches are being carried out at the aicraft doors to stop any new purchases being taken on board. This is causing the majority of delay.0 -

That is a brill idea - I love that idea. Not sure the airlines will though.0 -

As I noted above, according to Simon Calder that is not the case. He said you can take anything on board that you have bought in the airside shops, including bottles of water. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -
I think Simon Calder is wrong,
from the BAA website.
