Black Boxes

I have just seen on the poles of three road sign just after a speed camera there are small black boxes (one on each) looking towards the traffic.

Does anyone have any idea what they are?

Were there cables going across the road as well?

They are traffic flow surveys, and can sometimes be used for speed surveys. Nothing to worry about in relation to the speed camera ...

No there were no cable across the road

These boxes have no wires attached and two padlocks holding the front shut

No idea, will email it around the office tomorrow and see if anyone knows what it is ... (I design roads ... )

EDIT: Agreed with above post, nowt to worry about. But I am now curious as to what the box is for!

It might be some sort of environmental device? Pollution monitor? Or the remains of an ad board that was strapped to the post?
