    They only have a legal obligation to refund you if the goods are faulty, or not fit for purpose. Otherwise, any refund is purely at the discretion of the shop.

    The reason shops refund to the credit card is that that also refunds the charge for the shop using that card. Say you buy something for £100 on credit card. The shop actually gets paid £98 (or something like that). If they gave you £100 in case they'd be £2 down. But if they refund to the credit card then all is square.
