Buy prepaid Oyster cards on a credit card, go to another station and get them refunded to cash. That's what I remember being said.0 -

TfL has always been pretty strict about requiring refunds back onto the card they came from in my experience.0 -

Well I know nothing about this having just remembered it from another poster, but how would they know what payment method was used? Do they scan the Oyster card then it comes up on the system?0 -

Yes. Perhaps it used to be possible but they clamped down on it because it was being abused? *shrug*0 -
yes, they know exactly what payment method was used, they also link your Oyster Card to your detailsthe moment that you use a card to top it up.0

B&Q's tills forces you to use the same card for the refund as the purchase, as I put in the wrong one by mistake. I had to be given back the receipt to find out which card I bought the item on (by matching the last 4 digits). But, they do always return money in a like for like manner. I think every retailer is supposed to do the same under their card acceptance agreements.0

As far as I know the reason why the retailer is obliged to put the money back on the card is to stop people using their credit cards to obtain cash and therefore having a cash free advance. It is also a general security measure.Money is a wise mans religion0 -
So what happens if you have cancelled that account. The store still has a legal obligation to refund you.. so cash is the only alternative.0
