Underwear for big girls?

Options
Just been underwear shopping in lieu of my dress being ready sometime around this weekend and I'm so depressed & upset. I haven't been able to lose the weight I wanted to for the wedding and I feel a disgusting fat blob.

I ended up buying a firm control 'body' but feel sooo unsexy in it but can't find any sexy underwear I like (with a straless bra/confortable basque especially!) in my size (18 - 40E approx :o )

I guess in my head I'm picturing this size 12 beauty who can wear stunning lingerie but that's not me

So what is everyone else wearing under their dresses? Especially those 'larger' ladies out there?

Thanks - I had a look in Debenhams but most ranges (the pretty ones) only go up to 38D (which I tried on then ran for my life - I used to fit into that) and the bigger ranges didn't come with detachable straps/strapless bra's.

Can you send me a link to the one's which you bought pls Anderson? Thanks Domsmummy but I've let OH down so badly - he was hoping that proposing would incentivise me to get to target weight and I'm still as far as ever - I guess I've screwed up my metabolism :(

Aw honey you will be gorgeous I have found these at amplebosom the one at the bottom is very pretty, is it strapless you are after?
This is also available at M&S in Nude? May be able to find some codes for a discount over on the discount board.

Oh that is stunning Anderson! They don't go up to a 40 and Debenhams 38 won't go round my back :( I'm going to have so much back fat I really shouldn't have gone for a strapless dress :(

Violetta - the 2nd one is like the one I bought tonight but I look awful in in - still lumpy and pinched. I know there's not going to be a 'wedding night' anyway as he'll have had a drink but I would still like to look nice when I finally undress!

I didn't lose the weight I wanted. I went to Rigby and Peller- book if you can. I had a basque which was quite good at giving a waist and some hold you in pants which were like cycling shorts and were very unsexy but they did flatten my stomach which really does take some doing, my sister couldn't believe it and I would say knocked at least 1 dress size off me as well as flattening. Later on in the night I swapped them for some nicer underwear which my sister kept in her bag! I have to say after starting the meal it was a relief to take them off but they did the trick. They weren't cheap, I probably spent over £100 on the underwear but they were worth it for the photos. If you don't have a Rigby and Peller and want to know the brand then let me know. Also try the underwear on under the dress, I only did this the day before and discovered that the bra was too high for the dress, thankfully worked out OK but did add a bit of stress.

Losing weight is difficult and takes a lot of willpower. Don't beat yourself up.

Thanks mrstrw - that's why I'm trying to buy the underwear now - my dress is due & I don't have it all ready! Can't find any comfy shoes either :(

Sadly I'm nowhere near a Rigby & Peller so can't take that option though I wouldn't care how much it cost! I wonder if you can find their stuff anywhere else? trouble is I don't really know my size - I'm too scared to get measured by snotty shop assistants and only found I'm a 40f (approx!) by trying different sizes on in M&S!
  • Have you tried bravissimo? I've not used them myself but have heard good things. They have these

    this looks nice

I'm a 42 DD and HATE bra shopping, went with my partner before our day, went to a 'specialist' shop in Leeds and came out in almost in tears when I saw the ugly granny bras (no offence to any granny's!) they had in my size, ended up with a couple of bras from Matalan of all places! Fit lovely was comfy, fairly plain and had pretty straps not horrid 3inch wide ones, might be worth a look - not sure about the strapless - bigger branches might?
