So please can anyone tell me what provider I should switch for the cheapest broadband and telephone package or can anyone tell of any other packages that are reasonable!
I am using Primus Broadband, getting 1Mb speed unlimited, free modem & connection, free evening and week-end calls, all for around £10 per month (not including line rental). Check the Primus Broadband thread for details. However, if you just want BB then check out this offer. For £60 you can get 512 kbps for 1 yr for £60, including connection and modem. • Thanks guys/gals for the advice!! I have made contact with AOL and have negotiated broadband (silver) for £9.99 per month (12 month contract). Also, I have been quaranteed that this price will remain the same even after my 12 months contract. Until I have my broadband connected (7-10 days) I will not be charged for my original dial-up fee of £15.99 per month however I will have to pay for a wireless modem for £25.

The main reasons why I decided against TalkTalk is that I'm already an existing AOL user who has yet to experience any problems with its service. Also, I didn't fancy being tied up to a 18 month contract with a new provider which I didn't know.

However, I plan to join Primus for free calls for evening and weekends plus join Call18155 (I think it's called this!) for cheap mobile calls as also there is no contracts required.

Thanks again for the help and I will feedback on AOL Silver once installed!

You can get the wireless router free if you ask nicely to the sales rep :)
  • Could I?

Damn.....I should off tried! Better luck next time.

    Thanks!
  • Me again...

After finally ....I've now committed myself to AOL Silver Broadband service and now discovered some 'small print' that may cost me more money!!! I received this information by email....

' Please note that if you access AOL through our narrowband network (i.e. via a standard dial-up telephone connection), then you will have to pay per minute local rate call charges once your price plan has been changed to AOL Broadband. This will happen when we send you your Easy-Install pack.

Once your AOL Broadband Easy-Install pack has been sent, you will be billed £9.99 via your existing AOL account on your next billing cycle date. In addition you will be billed a proportionate daily charge covering the period between your Broadband Service being enabled and your first billing date on your new Broadband price plan.'

Does this mean I will still be paying more than £9.99 per month if I sign up to AOL Silver? And does it mean that everytime I use my broadband I will be still pay local rates to BT who are my telephone line provider?

Please help...any advice would be useful!

Luckily I have yet to be connected to this service (at £9.99 per month apparently) and so I can still opt out as I have a two week cooling off period.. so can anyone shed light on this until my time runs out!

No, What they are saying is that if you were on AOL unmetered dial up before - when you go onto AOL Broadband your unmetered dial up contract will end - in the event that you need to go back to dial up in the future - say your BB wasn't working - you would pay at AOL's Pay as you go rates - assuming you use AOL dial up which is your choice.

I have been using Fast4.net for morethan 18 months and am very satisfied. I send a secure message asking them to reduce the monthly rental to £4.99 and they replied quickly and has been taking only £4.99 for last 2 months,
    cheers

How come you can get it for that.
AOL site says £14-99 for silver and strangely £15-99 for DIAL-UP

and after 6 months its £17.99...
