Dial up user!!!

I must be the only person in the UK who still has dial up via AOL and so I've decided to upgrade finally to broadbrand. I had decided to switch to the infamous Talk Talk telephone and broadbrand package for £20.99 and was due to apply today - only to be informed by AOL that they could offer me a cheaper deal. The 'lovely' sales rep from AOL informed that Talk Talk package would actually cost me up £30 per month due to them charging for parental controls and security packages (which apparently are compulsory). Also, he told me that I would be charged 5p connection charge when I make a telephone call. Is he telling me the truth? As an alternative, AOL offered me a package (broadband and telephone) for around £27 per month so now I haven't got a clue what to do!

So please can anyone tell me what provider I should switch for the cheapest broadband and telephone package or can anyone tell of any other packages that are reasonable!

    Welcome to the forums.

Do you really want the telephony bit? You can get AOL Silver for £9.99 if you ask!

  • I think the AOL sales rep is stretching the truth a bit. I have had the talktalk phone package for over a year and there is certainly no 5p connection charge. The security package they are refering to must be the anti-virus package which you can cancel, I think you have to cancel this within the 1st 3 months.

As for parental controls I dare say most kids can find a way around them!

Check out their terms and conditions on their website, or ring them on 0800 049 0049 and ask.

has anyone used fast4net for dial up, we are currently using broadband but live on the outer edges of the broadband connectivity area and over the last month we have been without broadband because of line faults, we have had to resort to aol dialup (because they gave a free month trial), it appears that we can expect to be plagued by connection problems if we stay with broadband due to the decaying nature of bts lines and the distance we are from the exchange, anyway moan over, if we change to dial up (for reliabilities sake [we also run an internet buisness]) is fast4net any good, is there better
    thanks

Fast4 are still showing my monthly charge as £6.99.

I have just mailed them to ask for it to be reduced to £4.99 - i wonder if they would have done this automatically??

Sorry - i have just seen the new message.

I have used Fast4 for about a year and have only had an occasional problem. However, they do cut you off after 2 hours of being logged on and they give you a weekly usage limit (ie it is not "unlimited"). I never use anywhere near my allowance though.

As far as I know the weekly usage limit is 168 hours, which is all the hours there is in a week anyway.
It`s pretty obvious nobody could sit at a PC for 24/7.

Fast4 will drop you to the new rate of £4-99 if you ask them.
