Aha. Ahahahahahhahahhaha.Hahahahahaha:rotfl:Have you seen the quality of modern new builds??

True, but they will comply with latest building regs that old wiring doesn't and Surveyors always spout this out on old properties.

on our survey we got told told to check the electrics

had an electrical survey done and it need 3k worth of work to bring up to a reasonable standard

    spoken to seller about either
    1. knocking something of asking price
    2. doing the work himself before we exchange
    3. giving us an allowance on completion so we can do the work.

the seller says he won't consider any of the options

is there anything we can do other that conceed and do ourselves or walk away and find something else or go into rented

please help as i'm tearing my hair out on this one :(

Unfortunately you probably already know the answer, but no of course there is nothing you can do as it is his house and he can choose to sell it at whatever price and in whatever conditon he wants. Same as you can choose to buy it at a mutually agreeable price or find another house

If the work does genuinely need doing then he may find this comes up again when he finds another buyer and if prices fall in your area he will struggle to sell

No offence but if you told me as my buyer that a friend has had a look and thinks it will be around £3k I wouldn't budge either. I would want a formal report and quote for required work befoer even considering a drop

Either go that route or weigh up the overall cost of the house including this rewire (including redecoration) and see if you still want it at that price or find somewhere else

If they don't rewire it themselves, they will never see the light.
